I suspect that I chew sufficiently. I don't count, and twenty sounds a bit high. I would think that mashed potatoes don't require the same amount of chewing that a steak would. I guess the real test is when you vomit. I don't vomit often, but when I do, I'm not used to seeing chunks. Unfortunately I've had the opportunity to see other people's vomit, on many occasions, and noticed that often there is a lot of unchewed food. (Chunks) What a disgusting little comment that was. * grin *

crapping is also a good test, for things like corn, anyway, or chicken wings. if you find chicken wings in your crap you should definitely chew more.

When you chew you're also releasing saliva (digestive enzymes), so even if the food is already soft, masticating it would still serve this purpose in enhancing digestion.

I think when I'm nervous I don't chew as much, which may contribute to an upset stomach later.

Chicken wings! Oh, that's what those are! I always wondered.

I have been called the human vacuum and can suck down a can of Nestea Ice Tea in 3 seconds flat, although it has to be one of the newer wide mouth cans. The old cans take me 2 more seconds...
Time to edit this...
I don't chew the Ice Tea... But I do eat just as fast sometimes.
