I don't get depressed very often, maybe once every few years. When I do, I like to wallow in it. I'll put on an album like Nocturnal Emissions "Fruiting Body" really loud, turn out the lights and just lie on my bed thinking dark thoughts. After about half an hour, I'll have it all out of my system.

Eat and feel sorry for myself. I might watch tv but not because I'm depressed.

Bubblebath, call people, dance, run errands, tv, & lots of coffee & cigarettes. I have to gradually build the energy to do things that will build more energy. Sometimes I don't have the energy to turn on music.

My most common activity when I'm depressed is to take a hot bath fully clothed. Sometimes I'll dance, write poetry, indulge in something I shouldn't, punish myself in some way (deprive myself of food, etc.), have rough sex, petition hugs from my husband, etc.

I go for a walk, and then I come home, and listen to music while talking on the phone, relaxing and drinking coffee. And sometimes I go on SC. I also like to have a bubblebath with candles and special bubble bath stuff, and insense too.

This is great timing for this survey. I've been pretty happy lately. But the other night wasn't too much fun. I'm getting over it, by tuning everything out. Then I just relax by watching television or doing absolutly nothing. Of course my homework isn't appreciating this too much.

That might be my initial reaction, but I think the question leaned towards how do you get over it. If you're depressed because it's overwhelming, I find that tackling my most pressing issues works. It's the procrastination that eats away at me, though the creature comforts help too. Things like the bath are attempts at a minor rebirth.

Wow, there... I would have to say just about all of the above...... Not all at the same time, mind you, of course.... My current favourite? Drink loads of caffienated coffee and then go hide away in my own little Morrissey/Belle and Sebastian/Radiohead, etc. land... Very lovely... Or as lovely as it can get, under the circumstances....

Oh, yeah, and then there's writing... I like to write poems and stories and other such stuff when I'm under the influence of depression for it makes for elaborate detail and insight to my creative antenna........ Of course, wasting away on the internet, updating my webpage (or creating things, including food), writing e-mails and other such stuff is good, too... I am depressed often, so I get creative...

Oh, yeah... I cry, as well.. Especially when I am tired... Ever notice that it's easier to be depressed when you're tired? I do...

Usually I eat or just want to be on my own. Unfortunately this is a common problem 4 me cos I have S.A.D (the initials are apt!) (Seasonal Affected Disorder) which means that in the winter I don't receive enough vitamin E from the sun and so I get really tired, irritable and depressed. To combat this however I have a sun lamp from my doctor to shine on my face for a couple of hours.

I do all those things. and yes, I feel like crying at times for no other reason than being tired, and have to do a bit of emotional discipline to overcome it. Some of my best writing comes when I feed off my depression. Unfortunately I don't have an internal indicator that I am tired. I don't live on any sort of am/pm schedule either. I go to sleep when I look at the clock and deduce I am operating in slow motion.

I've figured I have SAD since I heard of it. My doctor says I'm low on vitamin E, though I eat E supplements. Worse, though I crave sunlight, I keep staying up till sunrise. I'd been up for a couple days. When I just woke up I was depressed to find that I'd slept 24 hours. I turned on the TV and was so happy to find that the news was morning news. I have a huge christmas gift production agenda today.

When I'm depressed, I prefare to listen to music. Especially Brandy's new CD Never Say Never....it puts me in a nother mood and takes my thought to a nother level. TV can also help me to come down cuz it puts a different image in my thoughts even though its just for a minute.

i hide away and arrange to listen to nine inch nails and/or marilyn manson at the loudest possible volume (i prefer not to use headphones, but sometimes this is necessary for the comfort of others) while meditating. deeper depression requires lighting candles and listening to 'the wall'. more moderate depression can usually be handled with the sundays, charlatans uk, and smiths.

Make everyone your boyfriend including yourself. Figure out what the ultimate person you'd like to be is, how they behave and think, and become that. You shouldn't have your life rely on one person anymore than you should rely on the weathar or tickets to disneyland because all of it is subject to change. If you rely instead on a quality of being, feeling, perceiving.. you will always have that with you.

I'm wondering if I have depression now. I seem to need 12 hours sleep a night, and take a few hours to get rolling when I'm awake. I was thinking maybe it's oxygen deprivation now that I'm using the gas wall heater in my tiny apt. or maybe my body has exceeded it's tobacco tolerance. Perhaps it's just the production stress here at Santa's Workshop. I'm testing flame chemicals and making incenses from essential oils, also because of the holiday shopping, I'm back on celebrex. Thinking about career and romance still weighs on me. I've been up for 2 1/2 hrs and the coffee has finally kicked in so I can take off my sweater. At least the fog has gone away today.

Funny...I had severe headaches a few weeks ago when I started lighting a house full of candles for the holidays. I cut back on the amount I light each time and haven't lit my beautiful oil burning lamp at all...now no headaches...Maybe it's all the chemicals in the air at your place.

I haven't been depressed in years, and I think a lot has to do with having a good attitude towards life, and be appreciative of what you have. "Out of everything bad comes something good" Yes there is a good side to everything..... stop being negative....

have you been to the doctors to ask about SAD? My doctor didn't believe it existed till I pulled out a medical journal to show him. I kinda diagnosed myself! To be honest it sounds like you do have it cos the symptoms are severe tiredness and the ability to sleep for long periods of time and you would also be feeling extremely depressed and irritable. Its especially bad for me at the moment cos I don't think we've had a day of sunshine here for 50 or so days!!

I do quite a few of these, but I've never been properly depressed - miserable and unhappy, yes, but depression is a lot more than that and I'm not sure any of these things could get rid of it easily.
