Yes, in the sense that their one moving part moves when pushed.

Well, they are tremendous fun. Since, I own one for the pure fun of it I suppose it works for me. Can it tell the future? No.

I honestly don't know. I could never tell if my brother was pushing it or not.

Questions like these are tough. You will invariable get 2 schools of people here. Those that are based in reality and vote NO...and those living in a fantasy world where there IS a god, easter bunny, democracy in the USA, responsible adults who take responsibility in their actions, etc. Honestly, i have spent many of my years scoping out various subjects just to find out what was bogus and what was not. Believe me, most of it is lies and deceit. People believe what they want to believe and it is very difficult for you to change their minds once set. People can be persuaded or tricked into believing anything. Some of them will even fork over money in the cause of belief or faith. I also believe that deceiving someone by using their faith in something for your own ends is one of the most terrible things you can do to someone. But what the hell do I know?!?

I would say probably not, but my superstition and willingness to believe in the supernatural does not allow me to entirely discount it. my story... when I was in high school, a friend of mine had one of these, there were three of us in the room. she and I tried it.. got nothing... I was thinking it was bogus. they tried it, I was about 10 feet away from the board. standard question 'is there anyone there?' I was thinking no, the pointer moved to no. they thought they were dealing with a wiseass, so they asked for a name. my name has a mispelling(same pronunciation) that can be done in 3 letters.. I focused on that one letter at a time.. the middle letter ended up as p rather than o. I explained what I was doing.. they gave up.

How about the "I don't know, I've never tried one" option? Geez. I would tend to think no, though.

I have no idea if they work. I can't imagine that they could, but I know lots of sensible, scientific, left brained people who are scared crapless of them, or have stories that really can't be explained by chance or sub-concious knowledge.

I think I've found that people subconsciously get the board to move to things. If I want an answer, it will give me that answer. So I doubt I'm always that in tune with the higher beings.

the first time i used one was in college and pretty much thought it was rigged. then one night i asked it if i would be going to a dance that was coming up and if so with whom? no one else knew this name. it spelled out "ron2112sdad" ;) (true story kid!)

Every time I have ever been involved with a Oiuja board and it actually moved, I knew right away, with absolute certainty, who was moving it. Also, answering yes to this question requires also answering yes to a few other questions which I find utterly preposterous, so for that reason alone I'd lean towards no, but in addition my numerous experiences have led me to totally discount them. They are only successful when someone in the group is in the mood to f**k with people's heads.

**Bill: that's awesome! I'm so proud...

***ron2112smom: are you going to make me regret telling you about this place? * wink *

"Work"? Yes, they work. They really do allow groups of people to convince themselves that they are communicating with spirits or something, when in fact all they're doing is moving a little piece of plastic around, just like they're intended to. They work perfectly.

As with most paranormal type stuff, I want really badly to believe that it's real, but I tend towards overanalysis and skepticism. I haven't yet seen a ouija board do anything that couldn't be explained by action (conscious or not) by the participant(s)...

I used one twice. The first time I could swear it worked although nothing it said was true. The second time it was just a bunch of gibberish. Although it did say that I would one day meet some dude named RON2112 who would tell me about a strange and wonderful place on the internet where I can answer questions all day long... Go Figure

I have always been involved with subjects that are "obscure" and "mystical" in nature. From my knowledge of the principles behind such devices, the Ouija board is not accurate for most people. It is far too easy for one to move the device to consciously make the answer that the person desires. As such, I do not recommend the Ouija board as a method of divination.

Well, if something that is supposed to summon spirits can be made in a factory with no spiritual process and most "players" having little to no idea of what the background of the "game" then of course not!
Personally I think they can work... They are not a "game" though, nor will they tell you your future accurately. I have actually never used an American style board, but other cultures have similar acts which are much much more credible.

Argh... I hate questions like this. Do they work to contact the spirits of dead people? I dunno, but I doubt it. Do they work as a way of getting answers to questions you wouldn't get by more "ordinary" means? Yes, often. I don't care for the symbolism of them much, though.
