| steve | posted 16-Jun-1998 8:18pm I bought the magic rocks, but then I never did them. I'm that lame. *Great* question! |
| daver | posted 16-Jun-1998 8:29pm Wow...none of the above. I feel like I've flunked the mass-consumer test. I used to threaten my sister that I would buy her a Chia Pet. **Hmmm...magic rocks seem pretty popular; So far I'm the only one who hasn't bought any. Could one of you folks that bought some tell me what they are? |
| ron2112 | posted 16-Jun-1998 8:59pm Yes, I bought a Michael Jackson album, but it was "Off the Wall" so somebody back me up on this one. As for the leather tie, I went one step further: it was a white leather tie with a piano keyboard running down it. Yeeesshh! By the way, you forgot "Beanie Babies" and tomagotchis, neither of which I've bought (for myself). |
| jjg | posted 16-Jun-1998 9:02pm None of the above. I may be a geek, but I'm not that much of a geek. |
| Atzilut | posted 16-Jun-1998 10:38pm only magicrocks and seamonkeys. I'm doing well. daverwoogumz: Magic Rocks were some kind of mineral--donno how they worked--you put them in water with a solution of some other gunk and the rocks would grow these stalagmites. Then in 3 days the water would turn cloudy and gross and your mom would throw them out. 'lijah: I think the unifying theme is "chintzy crap" or more precisely, "Faddish things" or, even more horrifyingly "what jen bought us all for birthday presents" |
| romkey | posted 16-Jun-1998 10:59pm I bought a Prince single once. |
| hunter | posted 17-Jun-1998 4:19am Umm...I danced for ten years and leg warmers were part of our standard equipment. They really help when you're working in a huge drafty classroom. |
| elijahblue | posted 17-Jun-1998 5:21am I don't understand what the unifying thread of this survey is... ah, so. Prince has put out some very cool stuff, most of which most of you all probably haven't even heard. Other than that, I haven't bought any of these. |
| cpierson | posted 17-Jun-1998 10:17am Yes! I'm clean! Woohoo! Well, except for the Duran Duran album ... |
| dab | posted 17-Jun-1998 10:20am Gee, not a one. |
| lizzie | posted 17-Jun-1998 10:49am I still have my Michael Jackson "Thriller" tape, ha ha! I have Magic Rocks in my closet right now, waiting to be grown. And I _adored_ legwarmers in elementary school. I've purchased sea monkeys, and a few Chia Pets (but not for me). You forgot Magic 8 ball! |
| milktree | posted 17-Jun-1998 10:49am I bought the "Pro-Long Super lubricating system" off TV, it was mostly not particularly noteworthy, except for their "Pro-Long Super Penetrating Lubricant" (a WD-40 like thing, not a sexual aid) and it just works. It's better than WD-40. |
| jonas | posted 17-Jun-1998 11:32am None of the above. I'm not much of a consumer (except for computer parts). |
| bill | posted 17-Jun-1998 12:27pm I agree that Prince doesn't belong on that list. I used to live in a chia-house, does that count? |
| Pomeranian | posted 17-Jun-1998 4:11pm I have absolutely no guilt whatsoever admitting to buying a Prince album. |
| phi | posted 17-Jun-1998 10:29pm Wow! You make me feel so much less like the tacky American consumer I really am! Thank you! |
| jer | posted 18-Jun-1998 3:30pm none of the above, tho I've got an Archie McPhee catalog on my desk, |
| lisashea | posted 18-Jun-1998 4:47pm Magic rocks!! I love chemistry stuff. And I bought a programmable robot off a home shopping network. It had a RS232 port. Way cool :) It could play infrared tag games. ***jer: Archie McPhee is great! That's where I got the "flavoured maggots" from another survey. |
| kadai | posted 19-Jun-1998 7:18pm Hey, why is the artist formerly known as Prince on this list? That's tacky! Now where did I put those Ginsu knives? |
| nbarone | posted 20-Jun-1998 11:30pm i've never purchased any of these, although i have owned (and enjoyed) both sea monkees and magic rocks |
| ron2112smom | posted 21-Jun-1998 2:29pm ...and mood rings and plastic mini skirts and hip hugger bellbottoms...but NEVER go-go boots! |
| lelle | posted 22-Jun-1998 1:15am I was a teenager in the mid-80's, and a dancer to boot. Of =course= I had legwarmers! I still do. :) I also had a leather tie. White. Worn with a cobalt blue linen shirt. And I know I bought both Michael Jackson and Prince records (well, a record and a tape) as presents. |
| Artemis | posted 24-Jun-1998 11:58pm no. |
| RatQueen | posted 30-Jun-1998 4:31pm I have a chia pet. it got gross. And, here's one that's not on there, (though simialar to Magic Rocks) magic glass beads... |
| eris | posted 10-Jul-1998 9:17pm Dang! I've gotta go right out and get myself a LEATHER TIE! |
| Mark | posted 14-Jul-1998 3:03pm Magic Rocks and Sea Monkeys, when I was a kid. And one of my favourite ties is a leather "piano" tie - white on black piano keyboard. |
| Jody | posted 22-Jul-1998 8:43am You forgot mexican jumping beans. And yes, I bought those too. |
| dpolicar | posted 27-Jul-1998 5:54pm "giant foam finger"?!? |
| reality | posted 28-Jul-1998 10:26am no choice for no. none of the above? **dpolicar: yeah, the we're number one things they sell at stadiums and such for games. |
| gilly | posted 3-Aug-1998 7:02pm Is this your Christmas wish list, Jen? |
| mross | posted 7-Feb-2007 3:01am No to all. |
