| Amz | posted 7-Oct-2000 9:21pm I think that sports encourage and control aggressive behaviours. They're regulated by the rules of the game and punishment is given to the rule breaker, however a sport like hockey and football can sometimes encourage abnormal aggressive behaviours. |
| Jameseroo | posted 7-Oct-2000 9:25pm I believe they control aggressive behaviour. It is a method of blowing off steam in a less aggressive manner and it is controlled by penalties for a player who crosses the line. |
| MOOSE | posted 7-Oct-2000 10:34pm Sports may and may not, but SC encourages aggressive behaviour! I seen all the brawls in the comments! |
| Zang | posted 7-Oct-2000 11:01pm Yes |
| Timmer | (reply to Zang) posted 7-Oct-2000 11:36pm Yes what? |
| Kristal_Rose | posted 7-Oct-2000 11:49pm No idea. I've never been agressive and I never liked sports other than mountain-climbing varieties. |
| D_Girl | posted 8-Oct-2000 10:07am It is not the coaches fault it is the parents fault. -Danielle |
| Jeanne | posted 8-Oct-2000 10:24am I do think that some sports encourage aggressive behavior. Football, boxing, are but a couple that encourage this behavior. |
| Zang | (reply to Timmer) posted 8-Oct-2000 12:31pm ...uh...Yes please? |
| mandy | posted 8-Oct-2000 4:25pm Laws control aggressive behavior in some and it is true that sports can be a legal outlet for our baser natures. Nothing encourages aggressive behavior. Aggressive behavior is a natural state that needs no encouragement. Some people use sport as an outlet for what aggression they naturally feel and need to express. Others do not feel the need. |
| SueBee | posted 8-Oct-2000 7:45pm It depends on the sport. I think some sports encourage aggressive behavior particularly under the influence of certain coaches, but usually I think sports help to channel (not necessarily control) aggressive behavior. |
| SueBee | (reply to Zang) posted 8-Oct-2000 7:47pm LOL |
| natsim | posted 9-Oct-2000 11:42am I'm not sure if you're asking about televised sport or participatory sport at school... either way, I think it depends on the sport and the people involved. |
| Jemmy | posted 9-Oct-2000 6:33pm Depends on the sport. |
| North79 | posted 10-Oct-2000 12:38pm I would say they serve as an outlet for them, but do not necessarily control or encourage them. |
| Timmer | (reply to Zang) posted 10-Oct-2000 7:36pm lol No, I mean you just answered yes...yes that it controls it, or yes that it encourages it? Yes to both? |
| Zang | (reply to Timmer) posted 11-Oct-2000 1:56am ...uh...Both! Yeah! That's it, I meant both...No really! |
| joachim | (reply to mandy) posted 12-Oct-2000 5:02pm I don't buy that. I'm sure aggression is a natural occurrance, but I also think it can be encouraged. When people around me are being aggreessive, I get that way too. I have noticed this when driving, when attending a sports event and cheering for one team or the other, and when drinking/partying. There is a group dynamic that comes into play, an infectious excitement that demands expression. And that's when you start trampling people. |
| Maarten | posted 13-Oct-2000 4:48pm Absolutely.. they should ban chess and checkers for its hooligans! |
| jkiehart | posted 30-Oct-2000 4:53pm Encourage, for the most part. Depends on what sport. Soccer, without a doubt. Synchronized swimming, no, not really. |
| sandy | posted 6-Nov-2000 4:47pm I think you can be a little careful in sport |
