If I'm feeling fairly poor, but I do want to go out, I'll suggest (PLUG PLUG PLUG) V Majestic, on North Beacon St. in Allston. Mountains of excellent food dirt cheap.

Chinese, diner, their fridge or mine. No fast food. If I'm going out to eat with friends, then I want somewhere I can sit down for a while. If I'm strapped for cash, I have no problem saying "I'm strapped for cash; let's go somewhere cheap."

The Double T diner (I'm in the Baltimore/DC area, I don't know if they have these elsewhere). Great food, a huge menu, low prices, and a parade of interesting people/coversations to keep you entertained.

Rasoi indian buffet, $5.95 a person all you can eat. I'd NEVER go to a fast food joint with a crowd as a "place to eat". Or I'd have them over for dinner at my place, but if you have half a brain there's all sorts of cool, cheap restaurants with really good food.

Denny's is a diner isn't it? basically a cheapish place that serves good food(and a reasonable assortment) at a reaslonable price.. there is a place called Bravo's nearby which is pretty decent..

I can't eat fast food anymore...my digestive system goes into revolt. So, that leaves out most of what you described above. I'd probably go to the 99 or something.

You consider Boston Market to be home cooking? It smells good but it always leaves me thinking it wasn't so great.

*dab I have never eaten there in my life but they claim to be one of those, I wouldn't touch it though.

Boston Market (when it used to be Boston Chicken) used to be better, then it got made into a fast food joint - the quality dropped severely. Kind of sad...

Taco Bell, home of 49-79 cent bean burritos. I like places at which one can eat a filling meal for less than 3 bucks.

I prefer "home cookin" ones. I suppose you are talking about what spanish call "comidas caseras". Here there are some great places for that, with nice typical foods just cooked few minutes before.

some place like Christophers, sometimes Boston Market. Never, ever McDonalds or BK. Ick.

Five bucks at the grocery store plus whatever happens to be in the fridge will feed at least four people in the hands of a skilled cook. Lorax, nbarone, am I lying here? Back me up...

Health food store, my gourmet vegetarian kitchen, movie theater butter-style microwave popcorn (quite eclectic tastes, I know).

I said a burgerjoint, but if I didn't have a car, then definitely to the fridge wherever we are.
