| SueBee | posted 28-Aug-2000 1:34am They're kind of cool because they're not like anything else on the market at this time, but I wouldn't want one. |
| Zang | posted 28-Aug-2000 3:23am It looks like the illegitimate offspring of a VW Beetle and a Rolls Royce. Ugly. |
| supplicant | posted 28-Aug-2000 6:28am It looks kinda cool in a retro-modern gangster kinda way, but only as a prop for a film or something, not as a car I'd actually like to see driving down the street. |
| Maarten | posted 28-Aug-2000 6:53am I like them very much, but I haven't driven one yet. |
| bill | posted 28-Aug-2000 7:18am They look like something out of the future (I wouldn't say "rip-off" though). |
| bill | posted 28-Aug-2000 7:19am I think most cars look exactly the same and it's sad. Sedans and SUVs abound. boring, boring, boring. I think and hope that the new Beetle will usher in a new era of funky looking cars. If this is the next step, great! |
| natsim | posted 28-Aug-2000 9:22am I think they're pretty cool. There's been some interesting social analysis on how they look like Gangster cars and that appeals to people because it makes them feel safer on the roads. I don't know how true that is, but it's certainly interesting. Someone in my town has a nice dark burgundy coloured one, and that looks amazing. |
| daver | posted 28-Aug-2000 9:27am I think it's a great way to squeeze more life out of the Neon production line. |
| Enheduanna | posted 28-Aug-2000 10:35am I think they look pretty cool, but I'd feel like I always needed to dress in a three piece pin stripe suit with spats and a fedora and carry a violin case with me everywhere I went if I drove one. I don't actually have any desire to own one. |
| Jody | posted 28-Aug-2000 10:44am The Prowlers were much cooler. |
| Oscar | posted 28-Aug-2000 10:50am I think they look great and wouldn't mind owning one if I could afford it. |
| Jemmy | posted 28-Aug-2000 3:11pm They are so cool! I love them! If I could drive then I would test drive one. |
| RaveDevil | posted 28-Aug-2000 3:22pm I think they are ugly and look like an old car rip off...whoever would buy them must be trying at some desperate attempt to be trendy by driving one of these things around |
| drdt | posted 28-Aug-2000 7:53pm Definitely designed by a blind person. It hadn't occurred to me that they look kind of like 1935 roadsters, but I can see the similarity now that people point it out. |
| joachim | posted 29-Aug-2000 6:01pm I think they're a bargain - Chrysler apparently loses money on every one. The idea is to get you to go to the dealer - who will convince you to buy something more expensive. Apparently that hasn't been happening. |
| TwistedIvory | posted 29-Aug-2000 6:02pm They're far too slow to keep up with their rakish looks. Mopar needs to chuck in more than that tired old Neon 2.2L engine; I'm thinking that if they'll extend the hood, they may be able to shoehorn a proper longitudinal Hemi in there, driving the rear wheels! |
| mandy | posted 29-Aug-2000 9:08pm Yuck |
| Maarten | posted 30-Aug-2000 4:19am For those who think the PT Cruiser is ugly. We have this in Europe: ![]() So you see, the Cruiser isn't *that* bad!! |
| natsim | (reply to Maarten) posted 30-Aug-2000 9:51am That is truly hideous! |
| daver | (reply to joachim) posted 30-Aug-2000 10:12am I would be amazed if Chrysler loses money on each one. A large chunk of the design cost has already been paid for. |
| joachim | (reply to daver) posted 30-Aug-2000 12:48pm Your access to Chrysler's books is obviously better than mine! But what I've heard is that they are not making a profit on those cars and they're pretty pissed off about it. A little web research turned up http://www.autoworldweekly.com/latestnews/0007/pt721.html, which seems to indicate that PT Cruisers don't make a lot of money for Chrysler and apparently also don't make people want to buy more expensive cars. So a slight misrememberance but the gist of the issue seems to be that the cars aren't making Chrysler as much money as they'd like. |
| romkey | (reply to Maarten) posted 30-Aug-2000 4:09pm oh my god it's got two chins! |
| Maarten | (reply to joachim) posted 30-Aug-2000 4:25pm I think the Cruiser has done a lot of good for Chrysler here in Europe. Suddenly the Europeans remembered the name Chrysler, which isn't very big here. So in a marketing point of view it's a very good car! |
| joachim | (reply to Maarten) posted 30-Aug-2000 5:54pm It's supposed to be their New Beetle (which I understand isn't as popular in Europe as it is here). But Volkswagen is selling a lot of non-Beetles (I just bought one) and apparently Chrysler is mostly just selling a lot of PT Cruisers. |
| Lizabeth | (reply to Maarten) posted 30-Aug-2000 5:59pm |
| Maarten | (reply to Lizabeth) posted 31-Aug-2000 1:04am It's a Fiat Multipla. It's Italian. |
| Oscar | (reply to Maarten) posted 31-Aug-2000 11:46am that is horribly ugly! |
| ASexyBabe | (reply to Maarten) posted 1-Sep-2000 4:03pm That ugly thing would not sell well in the USA what kind of price tag does it have? |
| Maarten | (reply to ASexyBabe) posted 2-Sep-2000 9:29am It starts at around $17,000. |
| antman | posted 7-Sep-2000 9:44pm UGLY!!!! eeeeeeeeeeeesh! |
| Thunder | posted 9-Sep-2000 7:10am But looks are where the thing ends. It is a really neat little thing, but where is the power?? I can outrun one in my Nikes!!! |
| Maarten | (reply to Thunder) posted 9-Sep-2000 10:06am Wanna bet? |
| Heatherkd | posted 9-Sep-2000 6:29pm I don't like them at all. They are really small to. |
| Kabit | posted 10-Sep-2000 11:41pm I've heard they're bad on safety... |
| North79 | posted 14-Sep-2000 1:21pm I think they look funny! |
| shsu_brat | posted 27-Sep-2000 4:38am they look like neons with a different top. i don't like them at all. |
| Analog | posted 15-Oct-2000 1:26pm |
| mandy | posted 15-Oct-2000 2:56pm THEY ARE SO EXPENSIVE!!!!!!!!!!! |
| Maarten | posted 16-Oct-2000 9:24pm Almost as cool as an EB112. |
| TheBlackAdder | posted 28-Oct-2000 6:47am it's just an f*%ked over, rebuilt economy car (the Neon in disguise) powered by a torpid 4 banger that some boob tried to pass off as a "truck" and some how made the EPA believe it. I mean who in their right mind really thinks that this thing is going to perform to any degree loaded to even modest capacity?? |
| TheBlackAdder | (reply to TwistedIvory) posted 28-Oct-2000 6:55am Let's not forget, Mopar is dead, all of the body designers are leaving to go to Ford and GM, and soon they will all be powered by DSM motors, should Daimler keep that sad relationship alive. Chrysler as it has been known is gladly no more!!!! |
| RGirl | posted 2-Feb-2006 1:49am At first I thought they were interesting but now they just seem ugly. |
