| sequel | | (reply to Maarten) posted 6-Sep-2000 10:14pm |
Maarten, think about this for a moment: What if that person is being sincere? That is a reasonable use of anonymous, and it doesn't seem an appropriate topic for your joke. |
Maarten | | (reply to sequel) posted 6-Sep-2000 10:25pm |
That shows how much I'm disgusted with those anons. If this person is serious about it, he/she is not even trying to seek help, by not naming his/her own name. If I saw any of you were so desperate I'd do anything to try to help you. I'd even try to help you financially, so you could get professional help. But now this anonymous comment is completely useless. |
| supplicant | | (reply to Maarten) posted 7-Sep-2000 12:32pm |
Oh what a fudging huge load of crap. Your constant thoughtless knee-jerk reactions because "OH NO! the word "anonymous" is on my screen!" truly disgust me. An anonymous cry for help is still a cry for help and is not at all "completely useless". You replied to their comment did you not? And they can, hopefully, read your reply. Not exactly useless now is it? The point of anonymous messages is to be able to PARTICIPATE in conversations without revealing a name, not to be automatically ridiculed because they are afraid of putting their name to a message. You could have made your offer of help and given them the opportunity to respond *despite* the fact that they chose to remain anonymous at the time. They chose to comment even though they could have just passed on by, they chose to invite a response... yet the response you give basically amounts to "you are anonymous therefore please die" and not the offer of help you supposedly would have otherwise made and *could have made anyway*. |

Talking about huge loads of crap... |

According to the test, when I'm 68...but I am a vegetarian and plan (ha!) to get into better shape, and with the way biomedical technology is advancing so rapidly...I'm going to live to be at least 85-90. |
Kristal_Rose | | (reply to Maarten) posted 8-Sep-2000 1:34am |
If it was a genuine message. It's more likely to be anonymous. The suicidal people I've seen, including myself during that phase of my life, are afraid to go to a supermarket, and risk looking someone in the eye. I agree, my intuition says it was probably not serious and a bit of looking for attention from a cynic, though I'm not certain beyond a shadow of doubt. I think there are actually quite a few people here at SC who get down enough to at least think about suicide once in awhile. |
| supplicant | | (reply to anonymous) posted 8-Sep-2000 2:09am |
Oh your crushing rebuttal has convinced me. Please! I beg mercy! Don't turn your intellect on me again! I don't think I could survive another encounter! |
Kristal_Rose |
supp: Did you mean to respond to someone else? I don't see that anonymous provided a rebuttal, unless you meant creative usage of 'anonymous', or unless your point IS that anonymous never responded, in which case I'm still confused because I thought you were defending anonymous, but perhaps you were until anon#2 responded and you took them to be the same person. |
| RaveDevil | | posted 10-Sep-2000 3:45am |
It said I'll die when I'm 62 on May 24, 2046...from heart attack or cancer being my biggest threats |

I was defending anon #1 and later being sarcastic towards anon #2 who was a different person to anon #1. Is that clearer? |
Kristal_Rose |
Ah, none of the above. And I thought I covered everything. It was a reply to anon#2, not anon#1. Well, hopefully anon#1 isn't being dragged out of a river. |
