Even though I wear my hair so short that it is essentially stubble, I still use shampoo, although not every day any more, maybe every 2-3 days. It is good for your scalp, and it smells nice. I used to use conditioner, mousse, gel, and hairspray back in the '80s when I had long hair.

I use a specific formula for light blonde hair to keep down brassiness

I regularly use shampoo and conditioner. Once in a while I use an all-in-one. Once a year I use a hot-oil treatment. That's it.

Shampoo and conditioner. Though it's really hard to find unscented or fragrance-free hair products.

Jody! I think you've just solved my problem. I have always found that I can't use any scented laundry detergent because my skin reacts, and I never thought of that for my head! Maybe I would stop scratching my head all the time if I got unscented hair products. Do you have any recommendations?

I stocked up on Ivory Unscented conditioner and shampoo just before they discontinued them, so I'm set for a while, but that doesn't help you. Try visiting http://members.aol.com/chseli/products.html, http://www.herc.org/hhc/LessToxicLiving.html, and http://traderjoes.com/tj/about/whatwesell.html#personal for some potential options.

I have naturally curly hair and it takes a lot to keep it from going buck-wild every day.

Jody, Natsim: I'm not sure but I think I have seen some unscented shampoos and conditioners from Neutrogena in the supermarkets and drugstores around New England.
