| Angry | posted 2-Aug-2000 9:44am Nope |
| Maarten | posted 2-Aug-2000 9:47am A lot of famous Dutch people live in Amsterdam and because it's a small city, you meet famous people all the time. I've only once spoken with a famous person. Her name is Ricky Koolen and she's my fave Dutch actress. She was real nice. |
| dab | posted 2-Aug-2000 9:58am Does Vint Cerf count as famous? He was on TV so he must be. |
| lara | posted 2-Aug-2000 10:07am Someone who is very famous in Korea (and is married to one of my mother's cousins) made me lunch once when I was a kid. I think that was my first experience with any sort of Asian food. It was yummy. |
| bluebird1974 | posted 2-Aug-2000 10:09am I saw Nancy Kerrigan and met all the members of the band Splender and got their autographs I forgot to check that option though. |
| cpierson | posted 2-Aug-2000 10:34am I used to work for the Toronto film fest, so it would have taken effort not to meet someone famous. Plus I'm friends with a few other writers who are fairly famous within their genre. |
| Jody | posted 2-Aug-2000 12:27pm I met and got the autograph of the founder of Teradyne. That was pretty cool. While on a company outing to Martha's Vineyard we saw Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn and made utter fools of ourselves on the bus trying to get their attention. My uncle used to be on commercials and soap operas in the 70's, so he's kind of famous. |
| Zang | posted 2-Aug-2000 1:30pm So many levels of fame. The most famous person I've encountered was probably Steven Tyler (he's really short!). It was kind of funny. I was at an art opening, some friends were having a group show. Of course everyone is sort of spread through the gallery in little groups, talking and having cocktails. Steven Tyler walks in, and you can hear his name being mentioned in hushed tones throughout all the little groups, but no one talked to him. Arty types are too cool for that. He just wandered around, looked at the artwork and left. BTW: He's the lead singer for Aerosmith, for those of you who don't know. Anyone from my generation would know him, even if they weren't a fan. |
| Maarten | (reply to Zang) posted 2-Aug-2000 2:04pm And he is Mick Jagger's twin brother! |
| Zang | (reply to Maarten) posted 2-Aug-2000 3:05pm Yeah, especially around the mouth. They both have that skinny face, big lips thing happening. David Johansen (New York Dolls) must be their triplet. |
| they | posted 2-Aug-2000 5:04pm I've been to many concerts, so of course I've seen famous people... I have spoken to Alan Jackson on the phone.. but it didn't really excite me too much... I used to have a polaroid of Eddie Vedder with some aquaintences of mine.. but.. it was in my glove box and fell out onto the floor of my car.. someone stepped on it and the only part of the picture that got damaged was Eddie's face |
| they | posted 2-Aug-2000 5:05pm My cousin just met one of the guys from Buffy the Vampire Slayer a few weeks ago, but I don't know who since I don't watch the show. |
| ReKhosGirl4ever | posted 2-Aug-2000 5:29pm I'm related to someone famous but I have never met the person, I just know that he's in my family. |
| Pollerbear | posted 2-Aug-2000 9:57pm I hate to sound like a "name-dropper" because I usually don't like it, but anyway, here I go: I once saw but did not speak to Kurt Russell & Rush Limbaugh having dinner together in a nice restaraunt. I met Barry Switzer. I met some of the current & past members of Kiss (Peter Criss, Eric Singer, Bruce Kulick). I had my photo taken with the former lead singer for Motley Crue and currently in Union (John Corabi). |
| Pollerbear | posted 2-Aug-2000 10:03pm Oh, how could I forget?!! I know the bass player from Caroline's Spine (Scott Jones)...I don't know if I can accuratly say we are "friends", but I can say we are "friendly acquantances"...we knew each other from college many years ago. We used to party a lot. Nowadays I only hear from him maybe once a year. |

| Frostbrand | posted 3-Aug-2000 1:05pm Almost met comedian Jim Breuer, and rock band No Doubt, in the same week! And I missed them both! |
| joachim | posted 3-Aug-2000 3:34pm I have been kissed by the King of Sweden (probably the former King of Sweden at this point), and I have spoken to Jewel. She kindly autographed my Passion CD. |
| Wicksy | (reply to Maarten) posted 4-Aug-2000 4:41am OK then, it was pure fantasy. I did see her in Australia and got her autograph so I guess that's the next best thing! |
| Maarten | (reply to Wicksy) posted 4-Aug-2000 5:42am Did you touch her hand 'by accident' when she gave you the autograph?! |
| Wicksy | (reply to Maarten) posted 4-Aug-2000 6:15am No, I was at a tennis match and I was in the stands so I was leaning over the edge and my long hand was waving a cap at her. She signed the cap. But no, I couldn't reach her hand!! |
| Maarten | (reply to Wicksy) posted 4-Aug-2000 7:23am Damn... |
| daryan | posted 4-Aug-2000 3:09pm I MET RED SKELTON IN TEXAS. |
| ayannahtaylor | posted 4-Aug-2000 5:45pm Yes, I have met Muhammad Ali when I was little in New York. I've also met Miles Davis' son, Rahmaan, and seen the master perform in concert when I was little. I, of course fell asleep in the concert. |
| SweetKisses | posted 5-Aug-2000 1:05am A lot of people haven't heard of them, but the musical group, 3 Men and a Tenor came to our school and listened to our choir perform and I had a solo. I thought that was pretty cool. :o) |
| TwistedIvory | posted 5-Aug-2000 11:32am Screw fame. They're all just people -- no better than any normal person! There's no difference! Why empower them? |
| Strider | posted 6-Aug-2000 12:56am No but my parents saw John clese (from Monty Python fame [sorry about any spelling mistakes]) in a jelwry store in NYC. |
| Hotbabe | posted 6-Aug-2000 5:21pm Vicky Michelle is a close friend of the family. |
| MaryVieira | posted 6-Aug-2000 6:02pm Meredith Vieira from "The View" is my father's cousin, though I have never met or talked to her. |
| zoomie | posted 6-Aug-2000 10:03pm A number of years ago, a well-known actor came into the place where I was working. I didn't request an autograph, or even acknowledge that I recognized him, and he actually introduced himself! I told him that I knew who he was, but had thought he might prefer to not be recognized. I guess I was wrong in thinking he would like to be treated as a 'normal' person! It turned out his birthday was the same day as my son's, and we chatted about that for a bit. I never did get his autograph. |
| Frostbrand | (reply to MaryVieira) posted 6-Aug-2000 10:16pm If you do, could you get a picture or something? I LOVE HER! Note to bill: There should be an icon for *inlove* A heart or something. |
| Kris13 | posted 6-Aug-2000 11:54pm I met, spoken to, and had pictures taken with Jennifer Lopez, Vince Carter, Alanis Morissette, Tia Carrera, David Charvey (he's not very nice), Will Ferrel (SNL), Britney Spears, Temperance, Sky, Ivana Santilli....and that's it...i think. |
| cody | posted 7-Aug-2000 3:45am It must be an issue of where I live, but I see "famous" people every few weeks. |
| cody | posted 7-Aug-2000 4:17am Hehehe, one of my friends is the son of Lizzie Grey, who formed the band "London" back in the 80's. He co-wrote "Public Enemy #1" with NIkki Sixx from Motley Crue back while they were both in "London". I don't think anyone would recognize him though, unless they are hard-core into Glam Rock. |
| Jody | posted 7-Aug-2000 10:25am H.P. Hood himself gave me a Hoodsie once, but I was too young to remember. (A hoodsie is a small cup of half chocolate and half vanilla ice cream that comes with a paper-wrapped flat wooden spoon). |
| sarek | posted 8-Aug-2000 11:48am Famous people put their pants on one leg at a time like everyone else. A few of them have obnoxious personalities and do let it go straight to their heads-unfortunately, I know a few of those as well. |
| jkiehart | posted 8-Aug-2000 3:53pm I met Conan O'Brien in a bar next to his studio at Rockefeller Center. He was very cordial, and even did a whiskey shot with me. Also, I temped one day at Joan Rivers' QVC jewelery company. She, too, was very cordial, which surprised me because she's such a b*tch on "E". She let me play with her dogs. |
| Enheduanna | posted 8-Aug-2000 11:49pm I've worn Shirley Temple's fur coat. And I have the autographs of John Cusack, Joan Cusack, and Ione Skye, from the set of "Say Anything." |
| Metattron | posted 10-Aug-2000 1:42pm *I have met someone famous.* I've met the President of the United States (President Bill Clinton)during the Oklahoma City Bombing. I don't know if that counts though. |

| Frostbrand | (reply to Metattron) posted 10-Aug-2000 11:32pm I met the Pres befor he was the Pres. In Colorado, at a democratic rally. I don't go to those anymore. I'm Green Party now, and I'm voting for Nader instead of Gore. |
| Avocado | posted 11-Aug-2000 12:48pm My ex was in some movies... wouldn't call him famous, but he did get 'recognized' out in public from time to time, which was fun. |
| Avocado | posted 11-Aug-2000 12:54pm If you go to the Clearwater music festival in Valhalla NY, you can meet Pete Seeger, who participates in plenty of small group circle sing-alongs. Mayor Koch once attended a play at my elementary school - a bunch of us got to sit up on stage with him. He wasn't very nice actually - yelled at one little kid and made the kid cry. |
| jkiehart | (reply to Avocado) posted 11-Aug-2000 1:50pm No! Did he really do that?? I thought Koch was one of the good ones! |
| Maarten | (reply to jkiehart) posted 11-Aug-2000 2:10pm Koch is pronounced 'kots', right? In Dutch that's vomit! |

| Avocado | (reply to jkiehart) posted 12-Aug-2000 12:51am 'Fraid so. This was during one of NYC's water shortages, and he was leading a question and answer session about how to conserve water - the whole thing was being taped for the evening news. He asked, "How long should you take for a shower," and one little kid said, "A half hour?" "A HALF HOUR?" roared the mayor, and proceeded to angrily explain why this was far too long. The poor kid was so upset... |
| Avocado | (reply to Maarten) posted 12-Aug-2000 12:53am Nah, it's pronounced "kotch" |

My family has known him for about ten years now. We get all our CDs signed. I spotted Brian Dennehy at a county fair once. |
