| sunshine | posted 10-Jul-2000 1:11pm My daughter loves these books and I will end up getting the book for her at some point. |
| joachim | posted 10-Jul-2000 2:07pm I don't plan to read it but my office mate just got it in the mail today for his daughter. |
| cpierson | posted 10-Jul-2000 2:55pm I don't plan to read it or not read it. Might get around to it someday. |
| jettles | posted 10-Jul-2000 3:37pm i haven't read any of the harry potter books yet but would like to at some time. |
| dab | posted 10-Jul-2000 3:44pm Romkey gave me the second and third books so I bought the first one. I enjoyed them so I'm sure I'll get the fourth through seventh eventually. I checked out the local bookstores yesterday but they're out. |
| anonymous | posted 10-Jul-2000 4:46pm It comes out in another 4 days here. |
| supplicant | posted 10-Jul-2000 6:29pm The consensus amongst everyone I've spoken to about it so far is that HP is good but way over-hyped and vastly inferior to other YA authors such as Diana Wynne Jones, and since I still have plenty of unread DWJ books here I won't be reading HP any time soon. |
| romkey | posted 10-Jul-2000 7:10pm I pre-ordered it through Amazon but cancelled the order and went to Wordsworth with friends friday night/saturday morning to get it. The late night bookstore thing was a hoot. I'm really really psyched that the release of a book can still cause this much fuss. |
| romkey | (reply to dab) posted 10-Jul-2000 7:11pm I'm glad I didn't wait till I came back up to NH to get a copy! |
| kirst | posted 10-Jul-2000 8:39pm I may read the book...haven't really thought about it. |
| Avocado | posted 10-Jul-2000 11:51pm I do not plan to buy the book, but I've been hearing lots about it on the radio. |
| Zang | posted 11-Jul-2000 2:53am Whatever |
| dsysko | posted 11-Jul-2000 1:22pm Maybe it's a good book, but I'm not interested in all of that silly fantasy stuff. A good calculus book for the kids is a much better investment. |
| gilly | (reply to dsysko) posted 11-Jul-2000 3:32pm I disagree. I think fantasy is as important as calculus. Kids need to learn to be creative and to dream as much as to be analytical and constructive. |
| Jemmy | posted 11-Jul-2000 9:36pm I might buy it. I'm not sure. I have to save my money for my new york trip, but I REALLY want to read it, so I don't know what I'll do... *sniff* |
| Jemmy | (reply to dsysko) posted 11-Jul-2000 9:39pm Yeah, because a calculas book is going to encourage a lot more children to read then a captivating, amazing series like Harry Potter. What is J.K.Rowling thinking? |
| gilly | (reply to Jemmy) posted 12-Jul-2000 7:26am Where do you live? Do you have a local library? |
| pandora | posted 12-Jul-2000 11:56am The girl I babysit is reading it. I can't believe how long it is!! |
| Jemmy | (reply to gilly) posted 12-Jul-2000 9:32pm Halifax, and yes, I have a local library. I would only know because it's right next to the mall though. :) |
| Maarten | posted 16-Jul-2000 3:55pm Isn't it a childrens book? |
| drdt | posted 17-Jul-2000 5:41pm dsysko: Can you recommend a calculus book that is good for kids? |
| Analog | (reply to drdt) posted 18-Jul-2000 3:19am I think any well written calculus text would be good for kids, provided the kids already had a good grasp of algebra and trigonometry. That said, I think Curious George Solves Differential Equations would be particularly well suited to youngsters who want to learn calculus. |
| mandy | (reply to Analog) posted 18-Jul-2000 8:56pm *clapping* |
| Enheduanna | posted 20-Jul-2000 4:08pm Actually, romkey bought it for me the night it came out, but I checked the "I bought it option" since it came closest. I've already finished it, and I thought it was fabulous. And I think it's wonderful that a book, and a really good one at that, is receiving so much hype--better than a movie or a video game, in my opinion! |
| Enheduanna | (reply to Maarten) posted 20-Jul-2000 4:09pm Yeah, so? |
| Maarten | (reply to Enheduanna) posted 20-Jul-2000 5:31pm Well, do the adults here read childrens books? Or did they buy it for their kids/nephew/niece/cousin? Or is it enjoyable for adults too? |
| Enheduanna | (reply to Maarten) posted 20-Jul-2000 8:32pm Yes. Yes. Yes. |
| Maarten | posted 21-Jul-2000 2:45am Oh Oh Oh |
| Enheduanna | (reply to Maarten) posted 23-Jul-2000 6:36pm (OK, there are supposed to be three smiley faces on three lines there, but for some reason it won't post it the way I typed it.) They're really good books--I would definitely recommend them to just about anyone. |
| Maarten | (reply to Enheduanna) posted 23-Jul-2000 7:02pm Maybe I'll try them. |
| TwistedIvory | posted 26-Jul-2000 10:10am I don't care -- however, my sister (12 years old) pre-ordered it and picked it up on it's release date. |
| SueBee | posted 31-Jul-2000 12:53am Well, I'm feeling left out not having read any of the Harry Potter books, but I'm the kind of person who has to read them in order. I'll request the first one at the library when I'm caught up with my current pile of reading. I'm looking forward to it! |
| jkiehart | posted 11-Aug-2000 1:52pm I love the Harry Potter books, and I'm 28. I don't plan to buy the book, though, I only lend from the library. Too cheap and there's not enough space in my apartment. |
