No, my mum was a teacher, so I could read and write before I went to school.

The results of this survey question cannot be relied upon, since non-readers cannot answer the question!

I had a horrible time. I still remember in first grade reading out loud and getting to the word he'll. I thought it was hell and was worried that I would get in trouble for swearing. I never enjoyed reading until I got to high school and I have since made up for lost time.

No, I apparently taught myself how to read at an early age. My parents thought I was just repeating the books they had read to me until I read something off the cereal box to them.

No, when I was small I was really smart. I wonder what went wrong. :(

You're not the only one who feels that way. I should do a survey on how many of us thought we might be geniuses when we were young.

I was absolutely positive that I was a genius in grade three. I am amazed and embarrassed now at my level of self esteem!

They had to keep dragging me out of the school library in first grade. So I guess somebody had a hard time with me learning to read.

"They say as a child
I appeared a little bit wild
With all my crazy ideas
But I knew what was happening
I knew I was a genius...
What's so strange when you know
That you're a wizard at three
I knew that this was meant to be"

I don't think so. I do recall that once I got it, I read all the "See Jane Run" style books in a day while others seemed to be slogging through them really slowly.

I love reading. I always have -- I can't even pretend to contemplate life without the written word! Ignore the mass media and forget television; I don't watch it anyway. I'll take the newspaper, a magazine or a book!
