| jettles | posted 12-Jun-2000 8:52am oh yes, i have had ample practice over the years!! |
| ayannahtaylor | posted 12-Jun-2000 9:07am However, I'm going to learn, because most mechanics will cheat you out of your money because you are a woman and ignorant concerning car work most of the time. |
| Analog | posted 12-Jun-2000 10:14am Yes. At least I hope I do. Otherwise I've done it wrong all these times. |
| Zang | posted 12-Jun-2000 1:12pm Yes, it is really easy. My father showed us when I was a child. I've never had a drivers license, but I couldn't count how many times I've done it. I like to help people. |
| Oscar | posted 12-Jun-2000 3:23pm I could do it if I had to. |
| phi | posted 12-Jun-2000 6:25pm Change, yes. Mount, no. I can mount a bicycle tire with my bare hands, though. |
| mandy | posted 12-Jun-2000 6:46pm I don't actually know exactly how but I could figure it out if I had to. |
| drdt | posted 12-Jun-2000 8:00pm Only if it is attached to the rim. Okay, I *know how* to do change it without changing the rim, but I don't have the tools or the strength to pull it off (ahem). |
| Enheduanna | posted 12-Jun-2000 8:20pm I learned how once, and I'm fairly confident that I could do it if I had to. Unless the lug nuts were too tight for me to loosen. |
| wesley | posted 16-Jun-2000 2:29pm Know how to and actually have done it several times |
| Zang | (reply to Enheduanna) posted 16-Jun-2000 5:48pm A good reason to carry some WD40 in your trunk. Also, a good technique is to push down with your foot, whilst pulling up with your hand. (More torque on the tire iron.) |
| joachim | (reply to drdt) posted 19-Jun-2000 1:36pm I saw a TV show about 4-wheelers crossing Antarctica (I think they were Toyotas) and they had an interesting technique for mounting tires in the field. They would sit the tire on the rim, so one bead was inside the rim and the other was outside. They would spray the inside of the tire with a flamable aerosol spray, and then light it. The combustion apparently decreased the pressure inside the tire enough to suck the other bead right onto the rim! It also threw the tire a couple of feet into the air, which was pretty cool too, this being a big ol SUV tire. |
| they | posted 25-Jun-2000 2:19am I could figure it out.. I've never had a flat and not had someone stop to help. |
| Jemmy | posted 1-Jul-2000 3:26pm Man, I can't even drive yet. |
| anonymous | posted 3-Jul-2000 10:07pm Yes, but i'd rather a man did it for me. |
| sunshine | posted 3-Jul-2000 10:26pm Yes I know how, but the way them luggs rust on you need an air hammer to break them loose. |
| TwistedIvory | posted 4-Jul-2000 6:41pm Yes, but have a clarification question. By changing a tire, do you mean simply replacing the entire wheel with a donut-type spare or actually taking an old tire off the bead and mounting & balancing a new one? I'm capable of both, so. . . |
