What is so good about Harley-Davidson Motorcycles?

They actually don't cost "so much more" than other bikes; it's just that most other manufacturers push their smaller (and cheaper) bikes more. Low-end 883 Sportsters are around 5K, I believe. Similarly, there's little price difference between the top-end luxo-barges from Harley, Honda, and BMW.

They have attitude.

I don't see anything "so good" about them. I think they're ugly, but for some reason they're popular.

Brand & image, that's what sells.

Recently, I thought about buying a motorcycle ... I looked around for a year or so, and time after time, I heard of the Harley. My understanding of the Harley mystique has nothing to do with the Bike itself, but the comradery of the owners. Wunnabees? ... maybe ... but more like instant acceptance. So I bought a Kawasaki Vulcan. Looks like a Fatboy that costs 16,000 bucks, yet it cost me 6 grand less. ANNNNNDDDDD I got it in a week. The folks at Harley said their fatboy could ship sometime next summer ... (about 6 months)

you got me. Honda and Yamaha both make better machines. I like Harleys but there are better bikes for the money. Don't hand me that crap about "Buy America", Harley has wrapped themselves in the flag for too long. Time to put up or shut up.

I have no idea. Maybe they are being marketed in a way that people think they are better than other motorcycles.
