| Oscar | posted 7-Jun-2000 11:11am We don't have beggars here. |
| romkey | posted 7-Jun-2000 11:30am I certainly feel like it! |
| lara | posted 7-Jun-2000 11:34am Yes. A little monkey beggar in a cat suit. |
| jonathan | posted 7-Jun-2000 12:25pm I usually don't feel hassled by beggars. |
| jjg | posted 7-Jun-2000 12:49pm Other: telemarketer. |
| Beachy | posted 7-Jun-2000 1:21pm Several. I don't know what its like in the average US city, but here in Sheffield the streets are full of them. I don't believe in giving them money, because I've seen them injecting and drinking it regularly. Being hassled is the worst, and brings out the worst in me, I've been very rude and very right wing to some people who practice aggressive begging - not like me at all really... |
| Zang | posted 7-Jun-2000 4:44pm If I interpret the question: Have you been approached by a panhandler...I would say yes. I think the wording of the question is rather offensive to people who are poor. I think it is unfortunate that so many people buy into the media/government propaganda of "poor-bashing". This is just a campaign to reduce government spending on social services, so that they can put more money in the pockets of the big corporations. |
| Enheduanna | posted 7-Jun-2000 5:42pm I said no, but after seeing lara's comment, I realized that if my cat begging for food counts, then yes! |
| bill | posted 7-Jun-2000 6:49pm No... unless you count some emails I've gotten recently. |
| picklesmom | posted 7-Jun-2000 7:36pm No,I've been in the process of waiting for and then having my kidney stone extracted so I haven't been around any beggars.(Unless you consider the business office of the hospital although they seem more like vultures than beggars!) |
| Pomeranian | posted 7-Jun-2000 8:28pm no, but I was harrased by this looney who told me I was an obnoxious nerd. And its really bugging me. |
| jettles | posted 7-Jun-2000 9:14pm and i don't consider it a hassle! ditto to zang's comment. |
| Enheduanna | (reply to Pomeranian) posted 8-Jun-2000 10:38am You're not an obnoxious nerd! You're a nice nerd! (I don't really think you're a nerd at all) |
| SueBee | posted 11-Jun-2000 3:22am No, I haven't ventured out of my house much in the last 24 hours. But actually, there aren't many beggars in my town. Just a few sometimes on the street corners trying to make motorists feel guilty for having a job and a life. |
| daver | (reply to SueBee) posted 11-Jun-2000 9:52pm I still remember the first time I was in Seattle: I was in a touristy section of downtown and I saw one of the mounted cops head over to a homeless guy on the edge of the square. I assumed I was about to see said guy hassled and run off; instead, the cop chatted with him for a while and bought him a cup of coffee. I was amazed. |
| SueBee | (reply to daver) posted 16-Jun-2000 11:43am I think probably Seattle's homeless are often the eyes and ears for the cops. It makes good sense to keep the communication lines open. Or maybe that was just a particularly kind-hearted police officer! |
| eloradanan | posted 28-May-2006 9:43pm I've been "spanged" in the past (not in the last 24 hours), but I don't consider that being hassled. If I say "no", they move on & ask someone else. |
| Biggles | posted 18-Jun-2008 10:09am I haven't been out of the house in a week, so no. |
