| reality | posted 14-May-1998 12:01pm you forgot beards. I have a bushy beard.. I am also pretty much bald on top, but the hair that I have (sides and back) is long (past my shoulders). Dammit, I'm not going bald gracefully, and I refuse to wear a wig or hairpiece, unless I could get a wig to look like troll hair (like on the troll dolls, I think purple or green would be best). |
| doom | posted 14-May-1998 12:01pm My hair is just sort of there at the moment, shoulder length, straight and brown. In the past I have had it permed and I have colored it. The most dramatic change was having over 2 feet cut off on a whim, the hairdresser was scared to do it but I insisted. |
| truss | posted 14-May-1998 12:03pm My hair is worn in a ponytail (unless I -really- feel like wearing it down), about halfway down my back. This is a relatively recent development -- I had your standard "bowl" haircut for just about forever, until about a year ago. (I had put off a haircut for a loooong time, and decided to run with it on a whim.) Hair in my immediate family is divided into two types: My father's & sister's (black or dark brown, coarse, well-behaved) and mine & my mother's (medium to dark brown, ultra-fine, easily broken, bone-straight and lifeless). My mother and I are bitter about this. :) As for coloration, I don't care if my hair turns grey, or even -purple-, so long as it stays on my head. (A good thing, since I've had scattered silver/grey hairs since before I was 18.) I have no beard or moustache -- I'd look positively awful with one. |
| lizzie | posted 14-May-1998 12:12pm I have brown, naturally curly hair. People remember me by it, so it is pretty integral to my personal appearance. Since I refuse to cut odd shapes into it, I have pretty much the same boring style I've always had. I'm afraid to dye it, but I did get a reverse curl perm once, which relaxed my curls (although you couldn't tell when it was wet) I go to the same hairstylist, when I find a good one. I'm always having to find a new one, though, because they move or quit or whatever. Anyone know a good hair stylist who can cut naturally curly hair decently? |
| lelle | posted 14-May-1998 12:19pm I've never had permanent dye, but I do colour my hair occasionally. Sometimes 'normal' colours like auburn or black, more often green or hot pink or blue. It's been a while though. I used to have perms in high school (it was the 80's, how could I not!) but right now I keep my hair long (just had it cut to shoulderblade length) and straight and plain brown. |
| elijahblue | posted 14-May-1998 12:23pm :( I had ten inches cut off of my (formerly) waist-length hair last Saturday. I asked for 6-8, and that would have been traumatic enough. I am still recovering emotionally. I don't know how I let myself get suckered into these things. ["Oh, it will be so much cooler for summer" (hairdresser); "it will make you look more professional" (mom)]. My hair is not only an integral part of my appearance (and what I get more compliments on than anything), but also an integral part of my identity. In my soul, I have long dark straight hair. I suffered some hair loss a while back due to the side effects of medication, but other people didn't seem to notice (thank god). P.S. great response options. |
| daver | posted 14-May-1998 1:00pm I let my hair do what it will... |
| fiore | posted 14-May-1998 1:40pm My mom is a hairdresser so I go to her all the time. When I was younger I used to have a perm(gasp!) that was bad. I've plenty of flattops and actually had a semi-mohawk. Now I have a yuppie haircut. Short around the sides, linger on top, with it to one side. |
| jonas | posted 14-May-1998 1:46pm I put "I could care less" because the other extreme was less true. I care that my hair is usually messy, just not enough to actually do anything about it. My girlfriend is good at cutting hair so I usually look respectable at least for a few weeks after a cut. |
| Resy | posted 14-May-1998 1:57pm whew, what an exhaustive list of choices ... impressive ... my hair is short to mid, auburn, thick and straight (the envy of many) |
| lisashea | posted 14-May-1998 2:14pm I've always loved long hair. My mom kept me in dutch-boy bobs which I despised, so as soon as I was in high school and bigger than she was, I grew it out. It's been from lower-shoulders to waist length since then. I keep it trimmed above mid-back now because it got to be a REAL hassle mountain biking and skiing with long, long hair. |
| Pigeon | posted 14-May-1998 2:47pm I think my hair is my best feature and I get compliments on it almost everyday. Its a nice shade of red (natural) and has a nice curl to it (also natural) i get quite offended when people think its fake... |
| Twanger | posted 14-May-1998 3:59pm I had past shoulder length hair for the last 3+years, but I just cut it off to about ear length a little over a month ago...I like it, but I kinda miss my old hair sometimes. |
| steve | posted 14-May-1998 6:37pm I get my husband to cut it back to my waist when it gets to the "hangs down into the crack of my ass in the shower" stage. (I'm sure you all really wanted to know that.) (Good range of options!) |
| dab | posted 15-May-1998 1:11am My hair is long (what you called really long) largely so I don't have to find someone to cut it periodically. Now that I'm going bald I'll probably have to get it shortened one day as it starts to look sillier. |
| Jaime | posted 15-May-1998 3:00am Pairisien for ever! [:) |
| bill | posted 15-May-1998 8:16am I'm trying to work up the courage to get a buzz cut, I used to keep my hair long - so this would be a total reversal for me. I found that short is so much easier, and now I really like short. People noticed my hair more when it was longer, but I think I actually prefer for people to not notice it. |
| Mark | posted 15-May-1998 2:47pm My hair is absolutely straight, and down to my waist. I've had some radical changes, at times, including a short perm (eight years ago). It is also tremendously fine, and can snarl quite easily, so it can be tricky to take care of. I have it trimmed periodically. This used to be about once a year, but a woman at work has started doing so every 6-8 weeks, and she also painstakingly trims all the split ends, the process usually taking 45 minutes to an hour. |
| Dolemite | posted 15-May-1998 3:20pm I get low maintenance haircuts. |
| hunter | posted 16-May-1998 2:16am Shoulders? You call that long? Bwa ha ha ha! For the past few years I'vebeen cutting my hair back to my waist once a year, but I think that this year I've decided to let it go and see how long it gets. I think it's past my butt now. |
| jzp | posted 16-May-1998 7:04am "i got a wig.." anyway, it is a cosmetic piece. i like low-maintenance, chop-it-off methods. used to be buzzed, shorn, chopped-on-top-long-inna-back-shaved-onna-sides, etc etc. generic short nowadays. |
| jcdino | posted 17-May-1998 6:54pm How 'bout "I need to get my hair cut, but I don't feel like taking the time to do it?" ;) I like to keep it about shoulder length but at the moment it's several inches beyond that. My hair "style" is pretty much whatever doesn't need much maintenance. I wash it, let it dry (or use a blow dryer if I don't have enough time to let it dry naturally) and brush it, and voila! Instant hair style. Perfect for a college gal. :) |
| nbarone | posted 17-May-1998 11:17pm my hair is long and strait and i like it that way...i did have a crew cut when i was a kid - i hated it. anyone can cut my hair if they want (but usually my wife does) |
| Atzilut | posted 19-May-1998 11:21am I'm really anal about my hair -- it wasn't til I discovered Angela, Hairdresser of the Apocalypse that I *really* felt in control of my hair. I now have grown it long, long enough to tie back and though there's problems associated with keeping it up (and with the inordinate amount of attitude I receive from My Gay Brothers) I do feel a real sense of achievement. I've coloured and cut it for shows, and on a whim. JZP: Carol's fall fell. . Joe's got a big bouffante on! |
| mute | posted 19-May-1998 4:22pm Jer cut my hair last. I think that was something like 4 years ago... Since then, it seems to have stopped growing at somewhere around shoulder-blade length. I should probably get it trimmed at some point, but I don't really care that much. And, uh, wimmin dig it. |
| prefect | posted 21-May-1998 10:32am Fun experiment: Grow your hair really long (middle of your back). Make lots of friends in college. Cut hair to really short, respectable length upon graduation. Observe reactions. |
| phi | posted 23-May-1998 9:32pm my hair is past my shoulders but not what I would consider "really long" (or as long as it has been in the past) |
| gilly | posted 23-May-1998 10:13pm My hair has gone from below my waist in 7th grade to nearly bald last winter (free advice: if you ever shave your head, *don't* do it in January in Boston) to above my ears now. It's often a reflection of what phase I'm in - long for hippie, short for dyke, who knows what's next. I dye it now and again, mostly when I feel as though everything else in my life is totally out of control so I might as well control my hair. No one ever seems to notice... |
| FateIsRandom | posted 11-Jun-1998 7:25pm I have the longest hair of anyone I know, it is down to my waist. It used to be longer when I was a kid but I cut it to the shoulders (Big mistake). I got my first grey hair when I was 14 maybe younger. But that's not why I dye it (I dye it reddish). |
| kazak | posted 19-Jun-1998 9:59pm My hair will only permits one hairstyle and when I get old I'm goning to go bald. |
| Kari | posted 16-Aug-1998 10:15am My hair is something between wavy and straight. It is not very straight, but it is not very wavy either. Also I have had perms in the past, but I don't do it often. |
