I love doing needlework. My favorite is needlepoint, though it is hard to find good patterns since cross stich has taken over. |

Cool survey! |

I liked latch-hook when I was about 6 years old. I soon got bored of following prescribed patterns, but wasn't with-it enough to come up with my own. |

Jeez. I didn't know there were so many types of stitches! Maybe I'm just ignorant, but I prefer to let the clothing companies do my stitching for me. I'm a Do-It-Yourself'er when it comes to other things. . . but sure as heck not stitching!

Most of these (I don't know what needlepoint is; I thought it was a kind of embroidery). I have sewn for more-than-a-hobby, as costumer for theatres as well as sewing custom garments (including adding sleeves to a friend's wedding dress). |

The only one I ever do these days is cross stitch, but I'm terrible about starting projects and leaving them unfinished for a LONG time. My mom tried to teach me to knit, but all I could make was little square cotton dish clothes. I never got beyond that.
I really don't like to sew. I tried that as a teenager and got too frustrated when I was always ripping out seams and starting over. I was the disgrace of the family...my mom and sister sew really well. |

In the past, I've done latch hook, crocheting and sewing. Currently I only do counted cross stitch. |

Needlepoint is a kind of embroidery. It's like teeny teeny teeny cross-stitch, but only going one way (but sometimes both). It's tedious, but can look really amazing. |

I like crocheting and sewing; I find knitting tedious. I can't crochet anymore, though, because it started to make my hand hurt from the repetitive stress. |

I'm a crafter. I usually make all my Christmas gifts for family members. When it comes from the heart they know how special they are |

I was one, but I don't do it anymore. I'm trying quilting this year. |

I love the art of working with your hands. I have crocheted family names in old English letters and framed them for my children to be heirlooms. I have sewn a Victorian dress for my daughter for a play, a prom dress for my daughter. I made a quilt for my granddaughter. I made quilted toy boxes for my granddaughters. I find it difficult to make my grandson's crafty things. I have made clocks for them. I am considering making them lap blankets. My mother used to sew pinafores for my sister and I. I wore them most of the time. She made drapes, she could sew about anything. I really appreciate women/men that appreciate these artful skills. What is sad in today's world is that many of these skills are not being learned by the young women. |

About 10 years ago I dumped all the other forms of stitchery once I realized I could actually quilt making teeny tiny stitches if I really put my mind to it! It's a lot of work but well worth the investment of time. |
