| SueBee | posted 29-May-2000 3:58am Yes, landing in San Antonio, Texas the turbulence was pretty scary. I was mostly worried about my 2 cats who were riding in the cargo area, but they were fine. |
| Avocado | posted 29-May-2000 4:55am And it was traumatic. I was holding the hand of the lady next to me, who wasn't someone I'd known before the flight. She was with her daughter, and I said, "I need a Mom too right now..." |

| jonathan | posted 30-May-2000 12:05pm Many times. I love flying through/near thunderstorms, the lightning shows are awesome. My favorite was a flight from Glasgow to Boston, on the way into Boston it was like a rollercoaster ride, lots of people getting airsick, etc. We got hit by a downdraft just before landing and the right wing (I was sitting in a window seat on that side of the plane) got shoved way down towards the water below, the wing looked like a big slide right down into the ocean. The pilot gunned the engines and we made a go-round and eventually landed safely. When I walked out of the plane and the co-pilot was saying goodbye to people, I said "That was fun, can we do that again?" I have a tremendous degree of trust for pilots and planes, I just wish automobiles were that safe. |
| joachim | posted 30-May-2000 4:03pm We were flying into Albequerque and it started getting a little bumpy. Then it got a little dark, and much bumpier, and the windows all got covered with rain. We were all slightly nervous - you know how it is when your plane is coming in for a landing - and looking out the window. It was with some relief that I saw the runway appear under the plane. Home free! Or so I thought. To my amazement, the pilot suddenly ramped the engines up to maximum thrust! The plane pulled sluggishly back into the sky and our pilot announced that he was going to wait until the weather cleared before landing. Anyway, as we turned I got a view of the city and sure enough there was this tiny but extremely sinister black cloud eneloping it. Anyone who's watched the Hall of Doom on the Superfriends knows what I'm talking about. It was pretty freaky. |
| joachim | (reply to jonathan) posted 30-May-2000 4:07pm I recently saw video of a couple of pilots flying a B-52 on a routine training flight. The one guy was known as something of a daredevil and in fact his co-pilot at first refused to fly with him, but the hotshot got a warning and the co-pilot an order and they went up. Anyway, Mr. Top Gun decides to see how hard he can turn his enormous bomber and figures wrong. The video shows this plane coming in completely sideways. The left wing touches the ground and instantly erupts in flame; moments later the body of the jet pivots into the ground and it's all just an inferno from there. So anyway sometimes I trust pilots but I try to remain skeptical. |

| Pollerbear | posted 1-Jun-2000 12:28am Once when I was about 9 or 10. This might sound warped, but it was actually kinda cool! |
| cydonia | posted 2-Jun-2000 6:19am No, but I would love to. I love storms (we don't get enough here in LA), and I love airplane turbulence and airplanes. |
| lelle | posted 19-Jun-2000 6:25pm Several times... Once, the plane was struck by lightning just before we landed. That was definitely not a pleasant experience. |
| joachim | (reply to lelle) posted 20-Jun-2000 10:19am What was it like? Did your hair stand up straight off your head? |
| kirst | posted 11-Jul-2000 3:33am Yes, many times! Flying near Japan is the worst! |
| Jemmy | posted 11-Aug-2000 5:35pm It depends. I personally chicken a light rain as a raging storm, if on a plane facing death. |
| Maarten | (reply to Jemmy) posted 11-Aug-2000 6:14pm Exquise me? Baking powder! Your personally chicken?? |
| Jemmy | posted 11-Aug-2000 10:18pm Whoops! Typing error! Meant to say count! |
