| Pigeon | posted 12-May-1998 4:58pm The only allergy i have is to the perfume in detergent.. Oh I itch to I bleed with that stuff |
| daver | posted 12-May-1998 5:00pm I have no allergies. Poison ivy doesn't bother me either. |
| jer | posted 12-May-1998 5:19pm none that I'm aware of |
| Pomeranian | posted 12-May-1998 5:24pm I am allergic to to cats |
| doom | posted 12-May-1998 5:25pm Firstly I agree with Atzilut. I never suffered from allergies as a child. Now I sneeze constantly in the early spring and late fall ... mold spores suck. |
| milktree | posted 12-May-1998 5:25pm None of my allergies are at all interesting. The only one that is significant is cigarette smoke. It prevents me from breathing through my nose, and my eyes water a lot. I have run across a few perfumes/fragrances in my life that I have induced physical effects, but it might have been psychosomatic. I don't think I'm even allergic to poison ivy, but I'm not going to test it. When I was very young I was allergic to strawberries, but that stopped before my memory. |
| Dolemite | posted 12-May-1998 5:31pm Sometimes walnut oil, sometimes smoke or pollen or pet hair. |
| lisashea | posted 12-May-1998 5:40pm I never had allergies growing up. Recently I've found I'll get stuffy during "pollen season" which sucks because I hike and camp a great deal. I deal with it as best I can - I also stay away from taking medicine so I don't like to pop pills to "fix" it. |
| bill | posted 12-May-1998 5:43pm I use a nasal spray, and this seems to keep me normal and happy. I had an allergic reaction to IVP dye (a X-Ray contrasting agent) once (while getting an X-ray) and I went into anaphylactic shock (they injected it into my veins). That was pretty exciting! (really, it's not a bad memory at all). *** you may have wanted to separate nasal congestion from asthma (Respiratory is perhaps too general - that is asthma is this horrible thing but I don't have it) |
| elijahblue | posted 12-May-1998 7:12pm I had asthma as a kid, and was very sensitive to fur, pollen, dust, etc. I haven't had an asthma attack in years, though. When I was really little, I was allergic to milk, wheat, and eggs, and severely allergic to many nuts (as in, I went into anaphylactic shock after eating a teaspoon of peanut butter when I was 2) but I gradually overcame most of those. Now all I am allergic to is some nuts, including cashews and peanuts. |
| romkey | posted 12-May-1998 11:03pm allergyless and fancyfree. I had pollen allergies a bit for several years but since I started spending a lot less time in the city they went away. |
| joe | posted 12-May-1998 11:29pm that i know of |
| lelle | posted 12-May-1998 11:29pm I'm hyper-sensitive (I am not sure I am medically 'allergic') to all sorts of stuff. I have really sensitive skin and it reacts poorly to lots of stuff. I checked 'other' skin allergies because while I am not allergic to cats (or any animal I know of), I am quite allergic to cat snot if it's smeared on my skin -- and one of my cats is quite fond of wiping his nose on people. :) No food allergies that I know of. Asthmatic, triggered by dust, pollen, mould, smoke... And adrenaline. |
| lobster | posted 12-May-1998 11:47pm This spring, my allergies are worse than they have ever been before! |
| steve | posted 12-May-1998 11:56pm I may be picking up pollen allergies as I get older; I'm still uncertain enough to be in denial about it. I said I have a food allergy, but it's not a classical anaphylactic reaction, it's just that every time I've ever eaten any significant amount of green peas I've thrown up a little later. (Good range of answers!) *** I actually tested poison ivy when I was younger--really crushed a leaf and rubbed it on my arm--and it had absolutely no effect. |
| kirst | posted 13-May-1998 12:37am I have adult-onset asthma which can be a bummer. Animal dander and smoke can aggravate my asthma. However, I love my cat too much to give her up. |
| Jaime | posted 13-May-1998 4:41am I've a recent allergy to some pollen, but not really severe. Also, I've a "mental" allergy to some kind of personalities. |
| truss | posted 13-May-1998 9:16am According to every test I've taken, I have no allergies. But stuff in the air (be it pollen, dust, or whatever) gives me fits anyway. |
| reality | posted 13-May-1998 9:37am My response was, NYAAH! I would qualify it to be, I have not run across anything yet that I am allergic to (but a sudden influx of photons causes me to sneeze.. maybe a mild allergy to light). |
| lizzie | posted 13-May-1998 9:46am I am allergic to pet dander, pet fur, dust, smoke, perfume, pollen, you name it and it makes me sneeze and my eyes to water. This does not keep me from owning a cat, however. I also have skin allergies to soaps, shampoos, etc. There's no listing for poison ivy/oak/sumac, which some people are extremely allergic to (I am not one of them). I've had all my allergies all my life, although the skin ones have let up since I have gotten older, but the sneezy ones have gotten worse, especially this spring. They knock me flat on my ass a lot of the time, so I don't feel like doing anything except becoming one with the couch. This sucks, btw. |
| jjg | posted 13-May-1998 2:32pm I have an allergy to mold. It could be considered severe since I become violently ill when presented with a large quantity of mold spores in the air. I have in the past been forced to leave work due to an increase in the mold count. This didn't start until college, when I would spend large amounts of time in sealed climate controlled buildings. Also I have a mild allergy to most perfumes and fragrances. |
| plots | posted 14-May-1998 8:58am Well, doctors say I am allergic to dust and pollen, but I have only ever had symptomes once and never again.... I had allergic reactions to pineapple a while back but that also seems to have gone away... : ) |
| presti | posted 14-May-1998 2:16pm Real Gold does a number on my skin. Sometimes I get a rash from seafood but only if it's got a certain preservative that they sometimes use to keep it from smelling "fishy". |
| Lorax | posted 14-May-1998 7:25pm I have a lot of sneezy, stuffy nose type allergies. I believe they are the cause of my very frequent headaches. If that is the case, they have definitely affected the quality of my life. I am also highly allergic to shellfish and bee stings (without the epipen - would probably kill me. Maybe even with it, who knows? "They" say the reactions get worse each time.) |
| nbarone | posted 15-May-1998 11:51pm my allergies - to dust and pollen of all types - have existed since i was a kid. they used to be really, really bad. i underwent treatment that consisted of several shots a week for about 4 years (i don't know what they were). now my allergies are just bad. i have learned to just deal. i also have a strange little allergy to some orange foods (carrots and cantelope, but not oranges) wherein my mouth gets itchy & lumpy if i eat them |
| jzp | posted 16-May-1998 6:51am Missed medical allergies. I'm somewhat allergic to certain trees and grasses in the Fall. |
| Atzilut | posted 17-May-1998 8:18am I. hate. adult. onset. allergies. Resy: Get a grip luv, it's just a survey. |
| jcdino | posted 17-May-1998 7:25pm Milk. And just about everything respiratory. Ick. They all bother my eyes too. Eye-drop makers must love me :) |
| mute | posted 19-May-1998 3:37pm Pollen, but not much. And erythromycin, when I was little... |
| phi | posted 31-May-1998 6:40pm my resperatory allergies seem to be related as much to my sense of self-esteem as to what's in the air; lately they've been pretty mild. I, too, am not allergic to poison ivy; I also don't react as much to mosquito bites (though NH skeeters'll still raise a welt). |
| Resy | posted 9-Jun-1998 2:53pm ...interesting question. I've heard that food allergies change every seven years; however, when I was a child everytime we had stuffed green peppers for dinner, I got the 24 hour flu! I have such an aversion to green peppers I just tell people I'm allergic to them. Where I live they say everyone gets allergies if they stay long enough! I was recently diagnosed with adult-onset asthma -- which can be triggered by allergies. I am also very allergic to sulfa medications and penicillian (I try never to get sick!) I go for allergy testing on Monday ... I'll let you know the results (because I KNOW HOW INTERESTING OTHER PEOPLE'S ILLNESSES CAN BE ... hahaha ... just ask Uncle Albert about that last gall bladder attack!). ***Atzilut -- grip gotten! My allergist told me I shouldn't plan for any small, furry creatures in my future as I am allergic to dogs and cats. I am also allergic to Mulberry trees, of which there are MANY in my area. Oh well. I'm with you though ... I.hate.adult.onset.allergies ... add adult.onset.asthma to the list! |
| Juliet | posted 4-Aug-1998 7:41pm This year was the worst allergy season ever. My God. My nose ran 24 hours a day and I sneezed 2-300 times a day for over two months (late March to mid-June). Usually when I take an over the counter med it's like I don't even have an allergy. |
| Kari | posted 22-Sep-1998 11:11pm I am actually allergic to fresh cut grass. If I get around someone cutting grass, my eyes get itchy, red, and swell up. I have had my eyes swollen shut before, when my allergy first flared up and I didn't know what was happening or why. I was about 12 or 13, I am 26 now and it still happens if I get around someone cutting grass. I also used to be allergic to dust when I was little, I went around sneezing all the time it was awful. |
| bill | posted 20-Nov-1998 5:43am Have you seen those Claritin ads with the person floating over a field of hay with a BIG smile on his face? That's me, baby! |
| they | posted 7-Feb-1999 5:18am When I was a kid... I could catch poison ivy if I had a window open.. my doctor always told me that people must be burning brush and I was catching it through the air... I would get it so bad that I'd be out of school for a week.. my eyes would swell shut.. I'd look like a little pig. I haven't gotten poison ivy since I was a kid though. I have terrible allergies to pollen... I also have asthma and smoke.. so you very rarely catch me breathing normally. Recently I found out that I'm allergic to Johnson and Johnson Baby Lotion.. I can use generic.. but the brand name breaks me out. |
| they | posted 7-Feb-1999 5:25am I love to sneeze... is that strange? :) clears me right up... practically orgasmic... |
| reality | posted 10-Feb-1999 11:20am they: TMI... then again.. I am jealous, sneezing is very painful for me. |
| they | posted 10-Feb-1999 11:28am reality.. what is TMI? did I miss something? |
| reality | posted 10-Feb-1999 1:08pm they: Too Much Information... |
| North79 | posted 1-Mar-1999 6:20pm Zip, zero and none. Nyaah! ;) |
| eris | posted 28-May-1999 8:50pm Also respiratory: dust (which is apparently extremely common) and systemic: sulfa drugs. Nothing serious or life-threatening, though. |
| mandy | posted 29-May-1999 5:35pm none |
