I don't know if "like" is an accurate word for it. I often find them necessary.

I don't like excessive use of them but they can be useful to help make up for a lack of body language and inflection

i think they are useful in this forum, because there's a substantial amount of sarcasm floating around...and the emoticons can, sometimes, express the intensity of the sarcasm, or whether sarcasm was even intended

Don't think I like the SC feature that translates them into pics though.

Hmmm...somehow this became a multiple- instead of single-choice. Weird.

I like them but I think I like the regular text ones better than these little pictures. The pictures are cute but they require less imagination.

Rarely use them. I have a dry sense of humor...keeping a straight face is integral.

I find them really useful if I think that someone might not realise that I'm joking.

I usually don't use them because I assume everyone can tell when I'm joking and when I'm not (and when I am simultaneously joking and not). But apparently no one can tell so people end up thinking I'm mean unless I say something seriously, in which case they think I'm funny.

Then you're almost always right. Almost. Actually I think a lot of times I am being serious but the world is sarcastic.
