| lizzie | posted 6-May-1998 9:10am I was 7. I wanted to go to the fire house and get a ride in a fire truck. (Well, it worked for those kids on Emergency!) Besides, I told my mother I was going to run away, and she didn't believe me. I'm certain this is where my stubborn streak started. |
| plots | posted 6-May-1998 10:22am Why should I? It is my home and I am in charge there.... (when I was a child? No still not, I get along well with my parents) |
| lelle | posted 6-May-1998 10:25am Not really. I have a vague memory of kind of hiding out in a treehouse thing with a friend for about an afternoon when I was a kid, that's about it. |
| lisashea | posted 6-May-1998 11:08am In high school I had boyfriends I'd go over, but I never really intended "not to return home". In college I got married so I wouldn't have to go home, does that count? |
| doom | posted 6-May-1998 11:09am Planned it once but never followed through. |
| elijahblue | posted 6-May-1998 1:47pm Not for serious. I spent some unauthorized time hooking school and staying at my boyfriend's house when I was 14. And I threatened to run away, and came pretty close a couple of times, but never actually did. |
| hunter | posted 6-May-1998 3:10pm I've never been a runaway in the classic sense, but I have left home for elsewhere without making my intentions known to my parents (I moved to Boston this way in 1987). Having two very cool much older siblings, I've always had someplace not-home to go. I kind of ran away from home again in 1996, but now that I'm a grown-up we call it "moving to California." |
| steve | posted 6-May-1998 4:09pm Yes, but only to my grandparents' house, which had exactly no chance of actually removing me from my home in even the medium term, so I don't feel like it really counts. |
| joe | posted 6-May-1998 7:27pm ran away and was caught a few times at 11 and 12 then ran away for good at 13 |
| romkey | posted 7-May-1998 10:07am I never ran away from my parents' home. I did walk out on a boyfriend once. |
| jjg | posted 7-May-1998 2:42pm I have never run away from home. I come from that rare American thing, a happy home. Sure my mother had died years earlier, but I can't say I ever had a disagreement with a family member that would put me in a mind to do such a thing. |
| presti | posted 7-May-1998 4:42pm Never! |
| Jaime | posted 8-May-1998 8:18am No really, only a "few days escape". |
| bex | posted 8-May-1998 1:24pm Never really felt the need to get away, got along with my parents. I had places to let off steam - big garage, church with piano next door. |
| lvirden | posted 8-May-1998 11:28pm depends on your definition of run away from home - are you talking about little kids who hide in the back yard type running away, or true leave home and live on the streets, etc. |
| jer | posted 10-May-1998 8:15am once when I was in 2nd grade, but I turned around and came back in a half hour so that doesn't count.. |
| Tonya | posted 10-May-1998 8:13pm Mother was there 5 min. later |
| kadai | posted 12-May-1998 5:31pm Once when I was 7 and again at 9. The first time was to escape an intolerable parent, the second, an intolerable teacher. I would've gladly stayed away forever in each case, but, being so little I attracted too much attention on my own and was turned in by the cops each time. Strangely enough, I exhibit the same behavior to this day. When the going gets tough, I leave. |
| lobster | posted 13-May-1998 12:05am Never even considered it. My parents have always been very loving. They sacraficially provided everything I needed. Yes, I did get into trouble many times and was paddled and punished, but I usually knew I was in the wrong and deserved it. |
| truss | posted 13-May-1998 11:09am I lived in -Maine-. Where was there to go? ;) |
| BadtzMaru | posted 23-May-1998 12:36pm But intensely wanted to - had nowhere to go. |
| gilly | posted 14-Aug-1998 12:14pm I threatened to once, but my mom knew I was afraid to cross the street alone. |
| pandora | posted 24-Oct-1998 12:32pm No. But I want to. I think it would be a worthwhile adventure. See new places. Meet new people. |
