How would you react to seeing the underwear of your opposite sex roommate drying in the bathroom.

If it was the type of underwear that is normally line-dried, I might be a little puzzled as to why she didn't use our drying rack. If it was the type of underwear that I would expect to be dried in a dryer then I would probably try to determine the health of our dryer the next time I saw either my roommate or my dryer.

It wouldn't bother me in the least. And I assume it doesn't bother my housemates when I leave my leopard print undies drying on the rack by the washer!

I've experienced this when I shared a house with 3 girls. I really didn't mind.

Why would that be a problem? It's only a piece of clothing.

No different. I'd be pissed off if they were in the sink though, or appeared when they knew guests were coming over.

This survey was posted for the benefit of Jeanne, who felt co-ed dorm mates wouldn't work because you couldn't hang your undies to dry.

How about "less disgusted." I doubt I'd be excited.

It doesn't matter what gender they fit (or even if it's underwear, for that matter) -- I just don't like to see things hanging to dry in the bathroom. That's what the laundry area is for. If I don't have a place to hang things to dry in my home (or yard etc) then they have to be machine dried, period. I dislike mess in the bathroom, and clothes hanging to dry qualify.

I had to laugh. I just finished responding to Jeanne's comments in the coed dorm debacle (thanks for going to bat for me there). My reaction to this scenario would be mildly negative, the degree of my reaction would be related to the quantity of said garments and frequency of occurrence. I would probably not complain about it unless it got really out of hand. The gender of the roommate would not in any way be a factor. Incidentally, I've lived with about 50 different roommates in the last 19 years and I don't recall this ever happening. (It might have, I just don't remember)

drdt: I do. My male housemate does, as does one of my female housemates. But we have a place in the basement to hang such things.

My ex-roommate used to dry her underwear in the bathroom all the time. Why, I have no idea. I am male, she is female, her underwear, while frillier and less functional looking than mine was not so different. Except that I never hung mine in the bathroom to dry.

To be fair, however, I don't think Jeanne was really that worried about people seeing each others' underwear (maybe she was - I don't even know what kind of underwear she wears but the point is that there are actual issues that could come into play when housing immature adults of different sexes in the same room).
