What's the best song or album you heard for the first time in last month or so?

Feel free to get flexible with this survey. If you've been introduced to more than one excellent song/album in the last month, go nuts. If you heard something really noteworthy but it was a bit more than a month ago, go ahead and push the envelope out a month or two. The point is to find out what's new to your ears these days.

It's an essay, so if you haven't heard anything worth mentioning recently, just say so.

I can think of two off the top of my head,
Moby: a lot of songs!
&
Kittie: Do you think I'm a Whore, Paper doll (thats the titles I can remember, I heard a few others that were pretty good too, but I'm terrible remembering titles)

There's nothing that really stands out. But I've kind of given up listening to the radio at the moment, as my favourite radio station now has a new breakfast show DJ that I don't like!

I picked up the new No Doubt album on the strength of the single. I'm not the kind of person who you would expect to listen to No Doubt, but I have to say it's really grown on me. On about the fourth listen the lyrics really started sinking in and I got more and more hooked on the melodies. It's a really fine album, with some very revealing lyrics. Gwen Stefani, love her or hate her, she's got some balls to reveal that much of herself (hey now, don't go there...).

vos: I have to say I really enjoyed that Metallica album too; another group I wouldn't typically listen to. I'm looking forward to the DVD of the live performance.

Some months back, I heard really good Kentucky bluegrass music for the first time. It was incredible... I was slapping my knees in time to the beat... I couldn't sit still if I wanted to...

i recently listened to the godsmack album and liked it quite a bit..all though i do think a few of their riffs were snagged from filter...i'm listening to the latest collective soul album for the first time right now...and i like it a lot so far

I heard a heavenly version of 'smooth operator' which feels like the world was about to end, but it's just going to coast getting there forever. There's a cut off Sting's 'brand new day' I'd also call heavenly, but it doesn't seem to get air play like his pop songs.

the album would be "Play" by Moby. Its just full of so many little gems I love it already
The song is "When She Loved Me" by Randy Newman from Toy Story 2, a movie which I've seen twice and cried at twice, all because of that song.

I haven't really heard any music in a long time that I haven't heard before. Although, I did find two of my missing Pink Floyd cd's that I haven't had in about 2 years, "Atom Heart Mother" and "Obscured By Clouds." Man, it made my day finding them! They were still without a scratch on them!

I like Leona Ness's new pop tune, 'Charm Attack'. It arrived just after I met my best-friend/ex-lovers lover who didn't want to meet me all these two years. We got along quite well, especially considering there are only a few people he will only talk to. The man is like the god of fire and ice. Since I the second I met him through a telepathic 'download' I've had a major sensitivity to energy releases which feel like electricity flowing through me.

There have been a few Red Hot Chili Peppers songs on the radio that are new. I don't know their names, but I thought they were the cat's pajamas.

OH! I forgot, my S/O has gotten me into Leonard Cohen, a lot of the things he sings about my S/O says that he kind of relates his songs to how he feels about me. So, I guess that is all new to me. Leonard is one strange guy. He says that 'Suzanne' (sp?) song reminds him of us in the beginning and the last song on that album, I don't know what it is called DAMN! I wish I could remember! It is so fudging sweet too. I usually put it in when he goes into jail, it is so romantic to me.
Leonard sings the first song on "Natural Borne Killers" and the second to last on the sound track.

I think Orbital's new album is probably the last really good thing I've heard but I'm not sure how long ago I bought it. I really love that "Key Largo" song on the Acura/Bose car stereo commercial.

Although Moby's Play is also really quite good. The best album I've bought recently, heard in the past month but actually listened to a few years ago is Emmylou Harris' Wrecking Ball. She has got an incredibly beautiful voice.

Mary: Atom Heart Mother may be my favorite Pink Floyd album (I used to be a huge fan - now it's the only album of theirs I own). The other possible contender is... Obscured by Clouds! I love that album, and in fact the whole Gilmour sound from their middle period.
