| rochelle | posted 1-Apr-2000 8:23pm it's not too hard to get an r rated movie nowdays. The theaters and video stores don't care, and you can order one off the tv quite easily. I know, i'm only 14! |
| tcb | posted 2-Apr-2000 1:55am Good question, but I really have no idea. My parents never were particularly strict. I suspect it was fairly young. *X* on the other hand, I didn't see until probably my early 20s. Probably somewhat sheltered in that respect. |
| Matt | posted 2-Apr-2000 3:41am I never knew they had Emmanuelle in 3d!!! |
| Maarten | posted 2-Apr-2000 7:35am Matt: It was Emmanuelle 4, where Sylvia Kristel gets plastic surgery and comes back as Mia Nygren. |

| Kristal_Rose | posted 2-Apr-2000 10:19am At age 8 'What's up Pussycat' & 'Paint your Wagon' (which first came out as an X, back when XXX meant something like 'Deep Throat' or 'the Devil in Miss Jones') were movies I saw at the drive-in with my mom. Also my freind and I saw 'Summer of 42' playing with 'Dirty Mary Crazy Larry' 'Summer of 42' was our goal: though it was PG, it had partial sex. For 'Dirty Mary Crazy Larry', they had the first 10 rows cordoned off because of the chase scene on a hilly road. At that age, I wanted to see Warhol's 'Frankenstein' in 3D, because I'd been a stereogram buff since age three. Eventually I did see it (see it at a theater), and most of his other stuff on video. My kids started seeing R movies from birth, that's the video age. |
| SueBee | posted 2-Apr-2000 2:33pm I think I was twelve. I went with my older sister, and I hated the movie, but don't remember what it was. It was some hippie movie, and had some disturbing images so I've blocked it out. |
| mandy | posted 2-Apr-2000 4:24pm Sue, It was Easy Rider.... |
| king_of_cups | posted 2-Apr-2000 7:07pm I'm not quite sure but I slept over a friends house so that we could sleep downstairs and watch Bo Derek in "10" at 2:30 in the morning on Preview. We could barely stay awake and could not understand the movie. After all that effort I'm still not sure what we saw but I do remember that we were disappointed. |
| cynnie | posted 2-Apr-2000 7:23pm It was Easy Rider. My friend's parents took us to the drive-in. Us girls sat up front and the 'rents and buggy sister sat in the back.....very embarrassing. I don't think I told my parents what we saw. it was really kewl. I still have the soundtrack (vinyl) |
| mandy | posted 2-Apr-2000 7:34pm MY dad took me to the drive in to see Jaws! |
| romkey | posted 2-Apr-2000 10:50pm my father took me to see Alien and The Shining. He had no idea what he was taking me to, and both times he scolded me that I shouldn't see movies like that. Oh yeah... he took me to see Night of the Living Dead too, when I was even younger. |
| Kristal_Rose | posted 2-Apr-2000 11:21pm At 14, mom didn't want we seeing 'The Rocky Horror Picture Show' on showtime. At 15, I was frequently seeing it at midnight theater showings with freinds. |

| drdt | posted 3-Apr-2000 6:10pm 10 years old, staying at a hotel with my cousins on the way across Pennsylvania, and we watched 'Fame' on HBO. I don't remember the movie (it wasn't very interesting, not enough action), but I remember that it was rated R and my uncle didn't think they should let us kids watch it. There was a point where somebody yells "That isn't music, that's masturbation!" and storms out of the practice room... my eldest cousin (at age 13) asked 'What's masturbation?' and his mother told him. He and his father both turned neat colors. |
| drdt | posted 3-Apr-2000 6:12pm tcb: 32 and never seen an X. |
| Frostbrand | posted 5-Apr-2000 7:22pm My first Rated 18 film was Heavy Metal. I didn't care too much for it, with the exception of the Captain Sternn segment, which seems to be everyone's favorite. My parents also enjoyed the movie, although their favorite segment was "B-17" |

| Kristal_Rose | posted 17-Apr-2000 7:06pm That reminds me of one of mine. (I know it's not columbus) "Columbus, upon sailing around the world reconsiders; 'perhaps the world is an infinite cylinder.'" Not as good as Jesus dog, by any means. |

| Joga | posted 22-Apr-2000 2:08am I saw the Exorcist when I was really young. I also remember my parents taking me to the theater to see Poltergeist. I was only 4 and I threw up all over. That movie still scares me. I hate clowns! And part two? I hate that old guy! |
| SueBee | posted 22-Apr-2000 2:42am I'm not sure which scared me worse in Poltergeist, the clown or the tree. *shudder* |

| Zang | posted 24-Apr-2000 3:18am I remember it well. My parents sent my brother and I to see "Lassie Come Home", it was boring so we walked out, and went into the theater next door (it was a ciniplex). We didn't understand the scene where the kid is buying condoms, so when we got home we asked our parents about it. They thought it was pretty funny. |
| Frostbrand | posted 24-Apr-2000 4:56pm anon's image has changed again. This one's funny. |

| icurok | posted 16-May-2000 5:24am Its a PG-13 now, although its been re-rated. I don't know what it was before. I was about 6 or 7 when I saw it too. |
| cody | posted 9-Jun-2000 11:36pm I was probably a few months old... maybe a year.. I do not ever remember a time where I wasnt allowed to watch "R" rated movies... simply because of the rating... The only thing I can remember not being allowed to watch, was "Dances With Wolves" when I was 8 or 9 and I think that was more about me giving my parents some time alone than an actuall content type thing. |
| mandy | posted 10-Jun-2000 4:16pm I have a story. Last night my beautiful SO and I went to the video store. I heard a well dressed, rather proper couple nearby discussing whether or not to rent Being John Malkovich. Stupid Woman: *with excitement bordering rigid stupor* Oh Being John Malkovich! Tall Dopey Guy: Oh yes, I heard that was funny. I wonder if we would like it. Perfect Me: *turning my head and looking over my shoulder* It was really good. I would recommend it. Stupid Woman picks up the box. Tall Dopey Guy smiles widely at me. He wants me. Stupid Woman: *shrieks* It's rated R??????????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!What's wrong with it? With that, Stupid Woman looks intently at me expecting a full review of anything and everything in the movie that might have caused it to get such an intense and objectionable rating. Perfect Me: *long pause and "the look" complete with raised eyebrow*...well, I suppose, it depends on your point of view. Perfect Me: *walks away shaking my head muttering something under my breath akin to*....that will fukkin teach me to talk to strangers in the video store...you'd think I'd fukkin' learn..... |

| supplicant | posted 20-Sep-2000 10:41am This question always bothered me as I didn't know what our "country's nearest equivalent" was. It could be R because that has much the same rules, or it could be M because that's what most films rated R in America seem to get here. They're both equivalents, it just depends whether you compare content or rating scale. |
| Frostbrand | (reply to mandy) posted 20-Sep-2000 11:15pm Can I take you to w0ork with me? The guys think I'm making you up! |
| Kristal_Rose | (reply to supplicant) posted 21-Sep-2000 1:04am Could you explain those rating distinctions. Do you have both a subjective and objective rating scale? |
| mandy | (reply to Frostbrand) posted 21-Sep-2000 7:09pm Now, you'd have to have quite the wicked imagination to make something like me up, wouldn't you? |
| Kristal_Rose | (reply to mandy) posted 22-Sep-2000 2:12am Exactly, now that he's mentioned you, he has to defend his un-wicked reputation. |
