| mandy | posted 25-Mar-2000 4:08pm Nope. I've flown often starting when I was a young child. I have even flown and landed a small plane myself, with an instructor present. |
| romkey | posted 25-Mar-2000 4:58pm not really. I get nervous when we hit bad turbulence sometimes. |
| SueBee | posted 25-Mar-2000 7:03pm Nope. And I LOVE the feeling of take off! There's nothing quite like that acceleration. |
| lion | posted 25-Mar-2000 7:48pm Nope.. except when dab allowed me to fly his plane, then I was a bit scared for the first 10 minutes at the stick. |
| king_of_cups | posted 25-Mar-2000 8:16pm I have a fear of all mechanical things that I can not control |
| Mana | posted 25-Mar-2000 8:53pm Well at first when I started to fly to my dads house it was fun and i wasn't scared, but after a while I became scared of flying. I still fly, but it scares me every time. |
| yorricks | posted 25-Mar-2000 9:47pm I took my first flight this past summer. I was a little bit queasy anticipating it, I remember getting a really, extremely dignified panic attack when the plane actually left the ground, and I absolutely loved the flight. |
| Gamera | posted 25-Mar-2000 10:48pm If being afraid of something was grounds for me to not do it, I'd be in trouble. I'm afraid of all kinds of things- you can usually tell which ones, they'll be the things I'm launching into full force. |
| Matt | posted 26-Mar-2000 12:59am I love being in a plane, its a great feeling. I adore it, hmmm when the plane takes off :). I just love it. I've taken the plane a few times and have loved each flight. Usually have a window seat, so I look out all the time. I usually cant sleep in a plane, so I just stare out. I want to be in a plane now... |
| bill | posted 26-Mar-2000 3:36am I got kind of freaked in a small aircraft (Cesna) that I got a ride in once. I got kind of sweaty and nervous and wanted to hurl a little. It wasn't really fear of flying though... I think the movement of the plane (shaking, slipping) and the noise made me uncomfortable. |
| Enheduanna | posted 26-Mar-2000 12:21pm I've flown in airplanes regularly for as long as I can remember, and was never scared in the least, even during turbulence, until a couple of years ago. I think I've just developed more of a sense of my own mortality, and I'm aware that nobody expects the plane they're in to crash. Sometimes it just happens, even if only rarely. And it's something I have absolutely no control over. |
| jonathan | posted 26-Mar-2000 2:58pm Nope. Once in a great while during turbulence I'll wonder "what's next" when the plane drops suddenly, but I have a very high degree of trust for planes and their pilots. If only cars were as safe! I haven't flown in almost six months now, that's the longest I've gone without flying somewhere since '92. |
| seanhuxter | posted 26-Mar-2000 4:15pm Nope. I love to take commercial jet flights. Don't think I'd want to fly an Ultralight, or a small plane by myself, but I dig flying. |
| gilly | posted 27-Mar-2000 7:32am Enheduanna : Me too! I'll sometimes be scared on a flight for no particular reason other than the notion that the plane *could* go down and I could die. And it's only been within the last few years. |
| Maggie | posted 27-Mar-2000 11:45am I have a small fear of it, but I have also never flown. I will be flying at the end of April though, so we will see how I like it. |
| mary | posted 27-Mar-2000 12:49pm I had never been afraid until I was on an extremely scary flight into Denver. Man, I just kept feeling the plane was dropping like I've never felt it before. I think that I have become less secure since that flight. |
| drdt | posted 27-Mar-2000 1:17pm Taking off is cool. Soaring is excellent. Landing is often painful. |
| jjg | posted 29-Mar-2000 2:08pm It's not the flying that I'm afraid of, it's the crashing. |
| beanie444_2000 | posted 3-Apr-2000 12:14am I LOVE to fly |
| Analog | posted 3-Apr-2000 4:19pm I love flying, especially when the sky is clear. The view through the window of a plane or helicopter fascinates me. |
| anonymous | posted 7-Apr-2000 2:48pm Yes. I am totally afraid of flying. BUT, I fly anyway. My doctor gave me Diazepam (Valium) to take but I never take it, cause I'm scared of taking it, but having it makes me feel better about flying. |
| joachim | posted 10-Apr-2000 2:30pm jen: too bad about there being no alcohol on Egypt Air. That doesn't seem to stop their pilots from driving their planes into the ocean, of course. Oh, uh... not that that should scare you - pilot murder suicides are one of the least common causes of death anywhere. When you compare the risk of death from that to the risk of death from you intentionally driving your own car... um... into the uh, ocean.... OK, this isn't really working here. But seriously, do they let you take your own booze on board? I guess if they did, you'd have to drink it all before you left the plane. |
| Frostbrand | posted 10-Apr-2000 6:39pm I was thinking, instead of oxygen getting pumped into those flimsy looking masks that come down, how about nitrous oxide? |
| mandy | posted 10-Apr-2000 7:44pm *reads Brian's comment and grins* |
| Gamera | posted 11-Apr-2000 10:45am Brian- how do you know they don't do that already? |
| powdered_donut | posted 13-Apr-2000 1:43pm i will not ever fly in my life!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
| Zang | posted 18-Apr-2000 4:20am Flying is safer than most other forms of transportation. I wouldn't call it fear, but I'm more likely to feel apprehensive in a car or crossing the street. |
| Lauren | posted 18-Apr-2000 7:51pm I have a small fear of flying, but it doesn't bother me that much. |
| Tiggersgirl18 | posted 20-Apr-2000 5:23am Even though right before or the day before I have nightmares and I think I am gonna die or something, but other then that I don't. It's not like I cry or throw a Kanipshin over it. I don't freak basically!! |
| Joga | posted 22-Apr-2000 1:49am I just get sick. |
| sybersnoops | posted 24-Apr-2000 3:29am Although I have flown a few times, I lose weight and get physically sick before I do. I can't imagine what it would be like to be in a plane going down and would never want to. They say it is safer than automobiles, I have been in a few bad auto accidents and everyone of them happened so fast I did not have any time to contemplate life or death. If I am going to go, that is the way I prefer. Quick, fast and if past experience is any indication, pain free. |
| Matt | posted 24-Apr-2000 3:49am I dont know when exactly it will be, but I want to take a plane soon... dont really care to go where, I'd go just for the ride! I love it and cant wait till next I step on board. Think I'll go to the cheapest place I can get a ticket to go to... |
| Avocado | (reply to Enheduanna) posted 29-May-2000 12:08am Ditto - I didn't used to be scared of flying, but lately I think that it's *possible* something could go wrong. So I do get on planes when I need to, but I don't get on planes when driving would be a reasonable alternative (planes and car-rentals at the other end are also more expensive). And I don't get on them just for fun. I have this practice, during turbulence, of looking at the flight attendants - if they don't look nervous, I figure I don't have to be either. |
