Are either of these text segments funny?

The French one - no. The "id" - slightly funny. I agree that some type of general question on humor would be good idea for a survey.

Not especially. As I've said before I don't usually like questions that require going to another page in order to complete.

I think I would've laughed at them if I weren't evaluating them for funniness.

Those are both just really stupid, the first one was better than the second but I can't understand why somebody could think these were funny. Maybe I just don't get them.

I think both of these are funny. I'm wondering what the larger question is, though...are you trying to figure out why people don't get your jokes? are you compiling a "humor of the net" page? are you contemplating a Grand Unified Theory of humor? whassup?

I liked the engine joke, laughed out load even. I didn't understand parts of it though - not really knowing engines myself. I didn't really get the fake french thing (though, I do know a little French - it just didn't seem funny). *** I second hunter's motion milktree, whassup?

The psych engine thingie is moderately funny. The letter in fake French is very funny, but then I hate French.

Truly it is just curiosity. I think they're all really wicked funny. Well, the cow is more amusing than funny, but the other two I think are a riot. The deliberate mis- interpretation of the question about U.S. V-8 engine identification numbers at the Freudian id and then being able to spout psychobable so fluently in a way that fits in with the original question is brilliant!
I never took any French lessons, so perhaps that's why I think the open letter is funny and not just weird.
*** I think it's funny that people wrote comments on how I should write my survey better, and how it would be a "better" survey that way, but no one is willing to commit to actually making a survey on humor themselves. Are you afraid that someone won't like your survey and give it a bad comment?

the psych joke would have been perfect about a parapgraph shorter, but this was yanked from usenet, right? the french this was dave barry or some such columnist loser. un-funny.

The first is funny. The second is beating a dead horse because somebody didn't capitalize or put periods in between I.D. When people do this (beat the crap out of someone for a simple typo or mis-spelling) I get upset.

They ain't as funny as that there dang cow, but they each had their moments.

The id wordplay is vaguely funny. (Definitely more so than a close-up of a cow). Why don't you do a survey on what types of things people generally find funniest (e.g. physical comedy, wordplay, situational humor...) Or are you going to keep linking us to things until you find something we all like? *** milktree: I don't think anyone else is interested enough in the topic. I know I'm not.

(I hope hyperlink questions like this don't become the norm, but one or two is ok, I guess.) I found the French thing amusing, but that's probably 'cause I know just enough French to really understand it all. :)
