| bill | posted 1-Feb-2000 9:32pm I'm just terrible a lying, I'd botch it and end up in jail myself. |
| Maarten | posted 1-Feb-2000 9:55pm It would really depend on the crime and why he/she committed it. |
| mandy | posted 1-Feb-2000 10:07pm What Maarten said! |
| jonathan | posted 1-Feb-2000 10:34pm I'd have to say "it depends," which really means "yes" under some circumstances. The ones that I can think of offhand are victimless crimes. BTW, I think the explanation text is gratuitous, but otherwise this is a great survey! |
| they | posted 1-Feb-2000 10:42pm Depends on who it was, what they did, and if they actually did it. |
| tcb | posted 1-Feb-2000 11:19pm Murder? I wouldn't. Smoking pot? Copying video tapes? I probably would. |
| dab | posted 1-Feb-2000 11:22pm There are a lot of illegal acts that I don't consider criminal, that is, they don't harm anyone. I'd have no moral difficulty with someone getting away with such acts; my main question would be did I think I could get away with lying about it. I'm a crapty liar so probably not. |
| SueBee | posted 2-Feb-2000 1:31am Maybe. It depends on the crime and whether or not it seemed justified. |
| Matt | posted 2-Feb-2000 8:39am I cant lie! I'm a terrible liar so it would really show if I tried |
| ILJ | posted 2-Feb-2000 9:25am If I know he/she is guilty, I won't perjure myself. However, if I know that he/she is innocent, I would probably lie if I thought it would get them acquitted. |
| ILJ | posted 2-Feb-2000 9:27am tcb: You make a good point. There are some crimes I would perjure myself over; you named two of them. And unlike many of you nice folks, I'm an outstanding liar. |
| pandora | posted 2-Feb-2000 10:21am What's with the explanation text? |
| Maarten | posted 2-Feb-2000 12:38pm Maybe Attyatlaw is a lawyer? |
| Oscar | posted 2-Feb-2000 2:19pm I think it would depend on the family member and the crime they were guilty of...more than likely I would tell the truth. |
| Maggie | posted 2-Feb-2000 3:51pm I think it would depend on the severity of the crime. |
| Oscar | posted 2-Feb-2000 4:43pm So Maggie, if I were to beat someone up that was talking about you and I was tried for it, would you stick up for me or let me fry? |
| pandora | posted 2-Feb-2000 5:01pm Yeah, I couldn't see the creator until I submitted the survey. It's all making sense now! |
| drdt | posted 2-Feb-2000 7:27pm If they were guilty of a crime which I believed was punishable, I would probably have to evaluate how 'loved' they actually are. |
| Gamera | posted 3-Feb-2000 1:41pm I doubt that I could successfully lie, because I totally suck at it, but if I thought that the law was wrong, and I thought that I could protect someone whom I thought was right by breaking that law, then I might try. More likely I would have to tell the truth because I would fear making the situation worse for everyone by lying. |
| bluebird1974 | posted 9-Feb-2000 4:15pm It would depend on what the crime was.If it was murder no but petty stuff yes. |
| Renee | posted 10-Feb-2000 7:19am i put yes, but it does really depend on the crime |
| Eeah | posted 12-Feb-2000 4:13pm mmm hmm. I would. |
| Bret | posted 18-Feb-2000 10:07am it all depends on what the person did how serious the crime and how much i liked the person |
| Andrewrage | posted 18-Feb-2000 10:17am It would tear me apart inside but I would have to tell the truth |
| anonymous | posted 22-Feb-2000 5:37pm depends on your definition of it. I would, but in a white-lie sense. I would not fully come out and lie. I have been in and out of courts and have never ever lied, just don't answer what you don't want to. |
| mary | posted 28-Mar-2000 3:37pm Actually, I have decided that I would. I wouldn't LIE lie, I would just not let anyone make the situation out to be bad if I could help it. Even up to lying |
| Richard | posted 13-Apr-2000 6:37pm The truth will set you free! :) |
| Zang | posted 24-May-2000 11:24pm I don't think so, but I certainly wouldn't go out of my way to testify against them. If I had damning evidence, and was being compelled to testify, I would probably skip the country. |
| Zang | posted 24-May-2000 11:38pm After reading the other comments, I would like to add that: 1. I am a very good liar. I can and will lie under just about any other circumstances. 2. Without regard to which law was broken and how I feel about that, I believe that perjury is morally wrong whether the case is murder or parking tickets. |
| Analog | posted 24-Jun-2000 9:47pm It would depend on the circumstances, but probably not. I hope that my friends and family never ask me to lie for them about something like this, because I think that would be an abuse of my friendship. Honesty is important to me. |
