| LJD | posted 6-Feb-2013 2:41pm I'm not familiar with the case. From what I understand he was exposing corruption, I say free Manning, let him go. |
| Iseult | posted 6-Feb-2013 3:36pm I don't know enough about this incident. He was arrested on a suspicious, and it's innocent until proven guilty. |
| they | posted 7-Feb-2013 7:49am Meh. Let him go. Fighting is dumb. |
| Dino | posted 7-Feb-2013 8:17am That's the messiest website, for sure. I still cant work out what he exposed. I vote prison, there are rules and procedures and ways of dealing with jatters. Trolling Wikileaks isnt one of them. |
| Enheduanna | posted 7-Feb-2013 10:49am I don't know enough about the case, and I don't have the time to read up on it. My inclination is to say let him go if he really was a whistleblower. But I also understand that classified information is a more complicated topic, and presumably the government doesn't want to encourage people to think that they can divulge classified information with impunity. |
| JessicaWoman99 | posted 7-Feb-2013 6:46pm I do not know enough about Bradley Manning I wonder if he is Peyton Mannings brother? |
| Zang | posted 9-Feb-2013 11:06am This isn't something that I'm familiar with, so I took a gander at the wikipedia article in the link. I didn't come across anything that struck me as particularly treasonous. His lawyer's contention that he has been denied a speedy trial seems quite valid. Yeah, I think he should be released. |

| Kristal_Rose | posted 18-Feb-2013 7:44pm Set free. I believe in as much government transparency as possible. If the public finds anything government says or does as unacceptable, they shouldn't be doing it in the first place. I understand the concept of protecting info which can be used by an enemy, but as I see it, even data-privacy during warfare has become a lost cause, and I don't see that the US requires that advantage. |
| Kristal_Rose | (reply to Dino) posted 18-Feb-2013 7:56pm He exposed the military taking out a van of field news reporters, then taking out a van of people, including children, trying to save the reporters. The incident itself was an instance of the larger issue of the public having a right to know what was happening in the war, beyond the biased propoganda provided by embedded reporters. To expose this degree of propoganda cover-up, Manning had to expose it to such degree through an unaffiliated media (wikileaks) such that the story could not be buried. Whethar or not he ever anticipated being caught, broad coverage of his leaks were also important towards public awareness of his role, such that his public trial could not also be buried in the media and lead to a quiet conviction. |
| Biggles | posted 3-Mar-2013 5:29pm Every time I see this survey, I start thinking "Put him in the longboat 'til he's sober..." Not very helpful. |
