Freedom and security are not diametrically opposed. Long live PGP!

I value both options. Without security it is difficult to be truely free.

I'd rather die free than live in a secured totalitarian state.

Freedom is an illusion.

A balance is more important than either one individually. Freedom without security is not really freedom, and security without freedom would cause the human race to stagnate.

Freedom is one of our basic fundamental rights. The Constitution was written to protect us from too much governmental interference which would include "security" If security were more important than freedom there would be no reason for security, at least on the national level.

Freedom, if I had to choose, because places like China, East Germany, the ex-USSR, etc. had security and see where it got them? However, a bit of security is nice. I'd prefer some of each.

Financial security, that is. Cause I'd rather be rich than free. or.. uhh.. free.. hmm.. free stuff kicks ass.

"Freedom from" is an illusion. "Freedom to" is reality. "Freedom 22" is a kickin' single.

I would give up some freedom, knowing myself and the ones I care about were safer.

You can have so much freedom, but if everyone had this overall freedom it would lead to chaos. There has to be in some way a type of "controlled" freedom.

although if we are predetermined then freedom doesn't matter ... but the illusion of freedom i am more comfortable with than the illusion of security (but perhaps i am just buying into paranoia) ... i like to think i don't do anything i'd have a big problem with anyone knowing

No answer, due to the "implicit" sense of the survey... you are supossing that freedom is oppossed to security? For me freedom is security... BILL: security is perhaps a bigger illusion...

Freedom is creativity is life. Security is unchanging is death.

Without freedom there is no security for me, I'd go completely crazy.

The results on this surprise me. Most people are more Socialist than Libertarian, yet more people here claim to favor freedom over security. Are people being hypocrites or is our local sample that skewed?

Freedom, do you hear, freedom. Wild abandon. Freedom. Dave, Ben Franklin was a British spy. Little known fact.

Depends on the context. Not having security often bothers me - job security, a secure relationship - but not having freedom - to change jobs, to be myself - would be worse.
