| FOX | posted 20-Jul-1997 7:53am yes, by "we" I mean the human race ( because I didn' t yet met any other thinking species able to joke ), and by "can ", " it is possible "... |
| ammist | posted 20-Jul-1997 4:21pm But not everyone can TAKE a joke about everything. (Jokes are very subjective things) |
| Twanger | posted 20-Jul-1997 7:59pm I put no. I am a quite jovial person but certain things in certain company can be less than appropriate. I think that much is pretty obvious. But is it possible? sure. |
| hunter | posted 21-Jul-1997 8:21pm I don't think humor is always appropriate, but I don't think there is anything I wouldn't joke about |
| quark | posted 27-Jul-1997 3:51pm If it's not serious enough to joke about, it's not serious enough to pay attention to... |
| iwh | posted 12-Aug-1997 10:31pm There are, from time to time, exceptions. You do well to be cautious about some subjects with some people... |
| RedYard | posted 25-Aug-1997 1:39pm I used to think not, but after spending time with some people who have as little couth as I, I was amazed at the depths to which we would sink for a laugh. |
| Atzilut | posted 3-Sep-1997 10:55pm ok, in a nutshell, when I was younger, jokes about current events (usually sad or horrible ones) I found funny like everyone else. When the heaven's gate thing hit, I felt like I was the only one not laughing --I mean sure, the whole thing bordered on the ridiculous, but I just was so sad and angry. now, with princess Di, I mean, not many people are finding the humour in this, but there are some. I guess this is "growing up?" |
| KenShingo | posted 21-Sep-1997 7:52am Joke about suffering and dying? Joke about someone dying from a gaping wound, breathing in extremis while making funny gurgling noises? I think not! |
| jcdino | posted 24-Sep-1997 8:26pm Well, whether you should depends on the person you're joking with and the circumstances... but it is certainly possible, though they're sometimes in bad taste. |
| bill | posted 1-Oct-1997 10:24am If by "we" you mean the human race, and by "can" you mean "it is possible", then... Yes, I think it's possible for the human race to joke about everything. There may be cases where it's a stupid/offensive thing to do, but it is possible to do it. |
| Spacey | posted 1-Oct-1997 12:31pm It is healthy and positive to joke even in situations that are no joking matter. But there are times where no joking is unacceptable in or under any circumstance. |
| rosalynbg | posted 1-Oct-1997 8:29pm there are somethings which should be considered seriously |
| Stalin | posted 7-Oct-1997 3:52am I answered no. But deep down inside, i think we all know the answer is yes. |
| fiore | posted 31-Oct-1997 4:31pm As long it doesn't cause harm or libel. Laughter is a wonderful thing. |
| julie | posted 3-Nov-1997 12:23am There are things in this world that should be looked at serious. How could you laugh at all of the jews being killed in WWII. |
| ClaudiaLR | posted 13-Nov-1997 12:55am Of course, why not? Even in situations that are sometimes sad and serious, it is ALWAYS good to have some humor!!! BE HAPPY EVERYONE |
| doom | posted 2-Dec-1997 4:45pm eventually everything can be joked about but some things needs some time in between the event and the joke. |
| milktree | posted 22-Dec-1997 5:10pm we can certainly joke about *anything*, but trying to fit everything into one joke would be really hard. |
| mozzer | posted 28-Dec-1997 8:42pm Of course yes,if Woody Allen does,why can't we ? |
| elijahblue | posted 15-Jan-1998 1:20am I think it is inappropriate to make racial or gender or disability jokes unless you are sure of the tastes of the people you are with, and even then, may not be appropriate... |
| Jaime | posted 17-Feb-1998 6:08am Yes ...please! |
| Timmi | posted 23-Feb-1998 1:13pm I think at one point or another we HAVE TO joke about everything. |
| Dolemite | posted 2-Mar-1998 3:46pm There's a big difference between can and should. Of course we can joke about everything. Should we? I would have to say no. I wouldn't want to offend every other person I come across. |
| weth | posted 10-Mar-1998 6:50pm What is this, some kind of a joke? |
| joe | posted 20-Mar-1998 11:54pm can? yes. should? who knows. |
| Artemis | posted 25-Mar-1998 8:05pm It all depends on what kind of people you're with and what they've gone through. If people make jokes about certain things around me I get really pissed off. |
| daver | posted 13-May-1998 3:55pm I can...and I won't get pissy if you do, too. |
| jjg | posted 17-May-1998 7:15pm You betcha. |
| reality | posted 3-Jul-1998 6:31pm absolutely. you can joke about anything. the jokes will likely be tasteless, or bad. but you can joke about anything. 'making fun of' or joking is a way to ease pain. |
| gilly | posted 20-Jul-1998 9:32am Personally, I find Holocaust jokes Just Not Funny. I'm sure there are other topics that I think are too serious to joke about, but that's the one that pops to mind. |
