Do you think humans will be able to greatly increase life span by using DNA manipulation in the future?

Let us say increasing the average life span to 150 years.

Humans were granted so many years. We can make our years better by eating, exercising, being happy.

I believe a lifespan of 150 yrs is attainable in the near future though I do not know if it will have anything to do with DNA manipulation.

It would help if you explained more about this 'DNA manipulation'.

I think we will, someday, be able to greatly extend human life (far beyond a mere 150 years) and the techniques for doing that will include DNA manipulation amongst other methods. Hopefully we'll start making some serious headway on these problems soon. I'd guess the first person who will live to 150 years is already alive. If that's correct, then the first person to live to 1,000 years old is probably also already alive.

Since you're younger than me, I hope it's not. * smile *

You didn't give a set point in the future, so that gives us a lot of time... and, clearly, there's keen interest in extending life. So, yes.
But, I don't think it will happen any time soon...

Possibly, but it depends if we are alive on this planet for long enough. I am sure we have the capability to use DNA manipulation to increase our life span to 150 years. Much scientific research has gone into it already. We are using stem cells and we know quite a lot about cells, the human body and DNA. However, I am sure everyone is going to die before we can make this happen, from global warming or something else, with the next 100 years. If the average life span did reach 150 years, I think we would all be doomed. Overpopulation would kill us and the Earth. Our curiosity and our constant need to find a cure for everything is killing us all.

Well, with the rate that they are discovering new information, I think that it is possible. Maybe this is the key to 'everything'. Only time will tell.

Given that ageing seems to be strongly linked to the degeneration of telomeres, I think it's quite likely that this will become possible.

I hope so and I hope they do it soon so I can live longer.
