| LJD | posted 25-Dec-2009 11:40am Humans were granted so many years. We can make our years better by eating, exercising, being happy. |
| ASB | posted 25-Dec-2009 11:50am I believe a lifespan of 150 yrs is attainable in the near future though I do not know if it will have anything to do with DNA manipulation. |
| Enheduanna | posted 25-Dec-2009 12:32pm I don't know. |
| Melf | posted 25-Dec-2009 12:42pm I am far from qualified to answer this. |
| Iseult | posted 25-Dec-2009 1:24pm It would help if you explained more about this 'DNA manipulation'. |
| dab | posted 25-Dec-2009 2:07pm I think we will, someday, be able to greatly extend human life (far beyond a mere 150 years) and the techniques for doing that will include DNA manipulation amongst other methods. Hopefully we'll start making some serious headway on these problems soon. I'd guess the first person who will live to 150 years is already alive. If that's correct, then the first person to live to 1,000 years old is probably also already alive. |
| LindaH | (reply to dab) posted 25-Dec-2009 2:50pm I hope it's me! |
| dab | (reply to LindaH) posted 25-Dec-2009 7:21pm Since you're younger than me, I hope it's not. |
| bill | posted 25-Dec-2009 9:07pm You didn't give a set point in the future, so that gives us a lot of time... and, clearly, there's keen interest in extending life. So, yes.
But, I don't think it will happen any time soon... |
| romeoandjuliet | posted 26-Dec-2009 11:13am Possibly, but it depends if we are alive on this planet for long enough. I am sure we have the capability to use DNA manipulation to increase our life span to 150 years. Much scientific research has gone into it already. We are using stem cells and we know quite a lot about cells, the human body and DNA. However, I am sure everyone is going to die before we can make this happen, from global warming or something else, with the next 100 years. If the average life span did reach 150 years, I think we would all be doomed. Overpopulation would kill us and the Earth. Our curiosity and our constant need to find a cure for everything is killing us all. |
| Richard47 | posted 26-Dec-2009 7:06pm Well, with the rate that they are discovering new information, I think that it is possible. Maybe this is the key to 'everything'. Only time will tell. |
| cerealkiller | posted 26-Dec-2009 8:29pm No idea what you talkin' about Willis. |
| they | posted 27-Dec-2009 5:36pm Geezus. I hope not.

| mandy | posted 27-Dec-2009 6:34pm Yes, but they shouldn't |
| Biggles | posted 7-Jan-2010 9:04pm Given that ageing seems to be strongly linked to the degeneration of telomeres, I think it's quite likely that this will become possible. |
| Icarus | posted 11-Jan-2010 12:09pm I hope so and I hope they do it soon so I can live longer. |
