Amy, the LJ veg*n group, and pretty much myself. Pretty much already gone lacto-vegetarian; considering going vegan but might just do it as vegan at home, but not outside the house.

If you're talking about food in general I don't care what is "best" to eat. What tastes good is the best. I somewhat follow guidelines to keep my diabetes under control but "tastes good" still rules.

If you're talking about where to eat then other than fast food I usually look for reviews on the internet.

Definitely not government, or TV. I get it from the Bible, books, internet...and some common sense.

I don't know. Me. It's pretty simple.... I'm not sure why I would need reference materials to know I shouldn't be buying hotpockets, doritos, candybars, and fastfood.

I stay away from pork, for the most part. I rarely eat shrimp, or shellfish. I have eaten these foods, but not on a regular basis. I eat pork, perhaps once or twice a year...bacon in a salad. The same goes for the shrimp, or shellfish. These are scavengers.

I saw a documentary about how smart pigs are. They were solving that puzzle where a shape is put into a corresponding space, something primates can do but dogs can't. They are very intelligent. I really started thinking about how they must suffer living to feed us.

I asked a guy at work who used to work at an abattoir how the animals react. He said the pigs know they are going to be killed, stress badly and struggle to get away. They can hear the other pigs being killed. He said they are very smart. Sheep, he believes, have no clue what's going on. Cattle are somewhat worried but nothing like pigs.

I stopped eating pork after that. I don't eat shellfish because they look hideous.

BTW, oysters have the best supply of zinc in any food. Zinc is very important in the diet of men.

I love the Aussies....

I understand the pig is smart. My husband and I were discussing this just recently. My step grandchildren raised a little pig...good pet. The problem is they were raising him to be slaughtered. My stepson sold him, thinking the buyer would take him away to slaughter...but he shot and killed him right in front of the kids. My stepson wasn't expecting that.

Yes, I know zinc is imperative for men....should have a minimum of 30 mg. zinc a day. I used to cook oysters, but haven't had any in many years.

I feel sad about how they kill pigs. When I was young, our neighbor killed his pig, and I couldn't stand hearing that poor pig dying. They "stuck" and bled, the poor animal upside down. I understand, for cleanliness, it was the way to do it...but as a child, it made me sick.

I think people should see animals be killed for food, so they understand that a life is taken.

So you would not stick to the letter of the Bible? You would not ban menstruating women from church or force them to cover their heads? You eat some pork, yet that is forbidden in the Bible. I don't understand why Christians don't follow all of the Bible if they believe it is God's word.

Kaleb...we're all sinners to one degree or another...while in the flesh, we're not perfect.

I wish I could say I have followed all the Bible's instruction...I have not. I try very hard to live right. There are reasons for instructions as mentioned, and one must know the context of the scripture...the language of the day. I eat pork (bacon) in my family's favorite broccoli salad. I make it once or twice a year....I eat pork at that time. Eating pork is not an unforgivable sin....it's that pork is not good for us. We're hurting ourselves. When we don't eat right, we have health issues.

All sin is forgivable. So are you saying anything goes?
LJD
(reply to kaleb777) posted 6-Feb-2010 2:50pm
There is only one UNFORGIVABLE SIN. No, anything does not go....

Which is the one unforgivable sin?

By not living the full letter of the Bible commandments, aren't you part of the problem with the world today?

From my understanding...it is when God's children knowing his Word, and when the time of the end comes, they deny doing God's work, and deny him. There is scripture that says so...I can't quote the scripture.. Only God knows the heart of man...he'll be the judge.

I get it from my religion. Sometimes God will wake me up in the middle of the night and tell me to go cook some squid and catfish with coconut butter. Other times he'll tell me to eat a dozen boston cream donuts. It is up to God. One time God even told me to go a kill my neighbors cat and eat it...I did not listen to him that time. God sure does have a crazy sense of humor sometimes. * winking raspberry *
