| Jaime | posted 1-Apr-1998 5:06am Hey! This is not my boss! |
| KP | posted 1-Apr-1998 6:10am I assume this deal is then a substitute for a raise, in which case it is nice offer but I'd probably prefer the raise. If it is on top of a raise, I want to know the name of your company! |
| bill | posted 1-Apr-1998 8:43am I think I know what you are getting at here. Some people like to get things like vacations or other expensive goods as "perks" from work. Other people, would rather have the cash and decide for themselves. I'm generally a cash person, but I do think there is virtue in the gift/vacation thing because it may expose you to something that you would not have otherwise experienced (e.g. Las Vegas). |
| Timmi | posted 1-Apr-1998 11:07am As if I EVER want to be in Las Vegas again. Ick. |
| hunter | posted 1-Apr-1998 11:49am Well, I'd *rather* have a raise, but we've been talking about going to Las Vegas sometime soon (we want to see Cirque du Soleil) and neither of us gamble, so it would be a great deal if my boss wanted to pay for the trip. |
| julie | posted 1-Apr-1998 1:41pm The only thing you really would have to pay for is food and it is not that high in vegas. |
| steve | posted 1-Apr-1998 1:43pm What's "everything else"? From what I've heard (never been to Vegas, like it that way) you can eat and drink for free. Oh, I guess there's the money that you give to the scum that own the casinos in exchange for, well, um, whatever you get in exchange for it. (adrenaline? As a Boston pedestrian, I get that for free.) |
| Dolemite | posted 1-Apr-1998 6:42pm Eh? |
| elijahblue | posted 1-Apr-1998 6:52pm The trip would be interesting, but I'd much rather have the cash value of it, if not a raise. |
| Artemis | posted 1-Apr-1998 7:27pm That would be awesome. |
| Twanger | posted 1-Apr-1998 8:10pm Why the hell is this a multiple answer question? Hell yeah I'd like a raise, and he's a nice guy too. |
| zoomie | posted 2-Apr-1998 11:14pm Not a place I'd choose to go. My first thought was if I don't go, can I get the cash instead? Nope. No raises in sight either. It's probably a cost-effective way to keep most of the employees happy with a bit of recognition and a change of pace. Could have been worse, could have been Disneyworld. |
| jefff | posted 6-Apr-1998 11:08am I don't have a boss - I work for myself. If I did it, I'd be a generous guy - but I'd still rather give myself a raise. |
| Pigeon | posted 6-Apr-1998 4:28pm Las Vegas does nothing for me, I 'd rather ave a raise or at least let us pick where we want to go |
| joe | posted 10-Apr-1998 4:49pm las vegas bites. |
| miranda | posted 12-Apr-1998 11:02pm I'd rather not have it as a raise, because I would lose 25%+ to taxes, and because I don't think I'd feel like I had a raise for that amount of money. ( 1 trip = less than $1K = less than $100 more per paycheck = I wouldn't notice much.) It would be very cheap so long as I didn't gamble. And I wouldn't do it on my own, but wouldn't mind seeing it once. Free holiday for me and my sweetie! |
| Tonya | posted 16-Apr-1998 6:57am I could use the money elsewhere |
| Mark | posted 4-May-1998 3:43pm Could be fun for some, but I doubt I would get much out of it, so I picked "I'd rather have a raise" |
| lelle | posted 14-May-1998 10:23am I've been to Las Vegas, and it wasn't much fun (you have to be 18 or older to go =anywhere= there, and I think I was 13). Gambling and glitzy shows isn't really my thing, either. If I could somehow finagle to get backstage at some of the places there, I'd love to go, though. |
| jjg | posted 17-May-1998 7:30pm I'd take the raise and go somewhere I could enjoy. Vegas? Not for me. |
| phi | posted 14-Jun-1998 7:33pm Do we all have to go together? If I had to use any of my vacation time I'd be REALLY irked. But my boss has the problem that money only motivates people so far, and so he gives people random things in addition to raises to make them happy. And a vegas vacation is peanuts to my last raise. |
| reality | posted 6-Jul-1998 5:38pm I'd rather have a raise.. it lasts longer.. besides.. what would I do in Las Vegas? I set a limit on gambling, and therefor after the first hour when I had lost my money I would be bored. |
| dpolicar | posted 12-Aug-1998 5:08pm checked both. s/he doesn't have to do it, and it's a generous gesture. If it's a choice between that or a raise, I'd rather have the raise... though the price of airfare and hotel rooms for a few days doesn't amount to much of a raise, I'd really rather have the money... been to vegas, really don't like it. |
| gilly | posted 14-Aug-1998 4:32pm Las Vegas wouldn't be my first choice, but what the heck, it could be fun. |
| eloradanan | posted 23-May-2006 12:35am I have no desire to visit Las Vegas. I'd rather have a raise and save up, then take a trip where I want to go. |
