| dab | posted 1-Dec-2009 7:51am I was just thinking that other day that one of my treasured memories is my grandmother telling me she was proud of me. |
| bill | posted 1-Dec-2009 9:19am I'm really not sure. I think I tend to ignore it. I wouldn't want it to go to my head. |
| jettles | posted 1-Dec-2009 10:24am usually makes me feel good but there are 1 or 2 people it would annoy me from. |
| FordGuy | posted 1-Dec-2009 10:38am Makes me think, "Sucker...." |
| Enheduanna | posted 1-Dec-2009 11:11am It usually makes me feel good. Unless they're being condescending, in which case I feel annoyed. |
| cerealkiller | posted 1-Dec-2009 5:00pm "Just" awkward. |
| Richard47 | posted 1-Dec-2009 8:17pm It is always polite to accept a compliment but only you, in your heart, know if you have done something that could elicit a feeling of pride for you from someone else. Say 'Thank you'. |
| LJD | posted 1-Dec-2009 11:09pm Humble. My children say I was a good mother, and that means more to me than anything. I know I made mistakes, and was hard at times, but the kids grew up to be good people, with good hearts.. |
| Biggles | posted 2-Dec-2009 6:51pm Awkward regardless. Actually, that's how I imagine I would feel. I can't remember a single occasion on which anyone has said this to me. It isn't the kind of thing my parents would say. |
| Lahdee | posted 2-Dec-2009 8:00pm I'm 40 yrs old and if someone said they were 'proud' of me, it would make me feel like they were honestly surprised that I could pull something off. Kind of patronizing. |
| cloudhugger | posted 7-Dec-2009 4:48pm Awkward unless it's from a parent or a teacher. You know, someone who saw you and your potential work hard at some major achievement.
It is to me, a little weird coming from someone who doesn't know me that well. |
| cloudhugger | (reply to dab) posted 7-Dec-2009 4:49pm That is a sweet memory |
| cloudhugger | (reply to Lahdee) posted 7-Dec-2009 4:50pm lol I hadn't thought of that, but yeah...you're right. |
| dab | (reply to cloudhugger) posted 7-Dec-2009 5:26pm I wish I had responded more warmly at the time. I was a young adult and was a little surprised by her comment, I didn't know what to say back so I said nothing. But it's still a nice memory. |
| Moogie | posted 7-Dec-2009 6:27pm If my dads the one saying it then it means alot to me, but if anyone else says it to me then it doesnt really phase me. |
| cloudhugger | (reply to dab) posted 7-Dec-2009 6:47pm No worries, Grandmother's understand. |
| they | posted 8-Dec-2009 9:58am I begin to wonder what they want from me. It starts as a small idea in the back of my mind. As time passes, I notice other 'nice' things they say to me. It becomes apparent that they are out to get me. Blah blah blah. The story always ends with me running away from a house, my night vision goggles bouncing upon my chest, with no memories of anything. Later, I take the eyeballs out of my pocket and put them in my special drawer. |
| LindaH | (reply to Lahdee) posted 9-Dec-2009 10:38pm Almost as bad as if it is prefaced by something like "Whoa! You actually formed a coherent sentence!!!" |
| Lahdee | (reply to LindaH) posted 10-Dec-2009 6:56am |
| cloudhugger | (reply to they) posted 19-Dec-2009 6:52am WHAT!?!? |

Well, unless I did something bad by accident and the Grand Dragon of the KKK told me he was proud of me. In that case I'd feel ashamed.
