| LJD | posted 11-Nov-2009 11:24am I think it's probably intuition, instinct...perhaps you've heard it in the past. |
| Melf | posted 11-Nov-2009 11:37am No, I tend to remember where I learnt most things. |
| RainingFeathers | posted 11-Nov-2009 1:43pm All the time. The other day on my lunch one of my coworkers was looking at the paper. There was a picture of Cheryl Hickey (on a fashion page). She asked us who she was - I said "She's one of the hosts of E.T, the Canadian one." Then I said "Why do I know that? I haven't had cable in years...."
This is just the most recent example. There are many others. |

My brain tends to collect useless informations. I'm very good at trivia. |
| gambler | posted 11-Nov-2009 4:55pm Not exactly........... I have lots of random trivia in my head (especially entertainment/film) , what happens is Mitzie, friends will say "How the Hell did you know that?"
e.g I told someone just recently that Debbie Allen of "Fame" the movie and TV series is sister to Phylicia Rashad (Clare Huxtable on the Cosby show) ... they were like WHY would you know that? |
| Kristal_Rose | posted 11-Nov-2009 7:57pm No. I pretty much know my sources.
..or did you mean "Why did I bother to remember that?"? |
| Richard47 | posted 11-Nov-2009 8:42pm I am not a very big trivia buff and most of my factual information comes from a medical career, and then a career is social services so it makes sense that I would know information of that sort. I know some Hollywood/film trivia but never ask myself where the knowledge originated from. Reading/ television/ internet are the usual suspects. |
| CarolL | posted 12-Nov-2009 5:29am My head is full of useless facts. Did you know that porcupines masturbate? |

I have to say it. How do you know that?!!? We had a dog that gave himself head. It was funny at first but he did it so often that it got rather annoying. |
| Biggles | posted 12-Nov-2009 12:37pm All the time. I find it incredibly annoying that I know such useless stuff, when I can't for the life of me remember something as important as the differences between antibiotics. |
| Kristal_Rose | (reply to Biggles) posted 12-Nov-2009 5:16pm Just carry dice or coins around with you. |
| Biggles | (reply to Kristal_Rose) posted 12-Nov-2009 5:41pm "Hmmm, it says you're allergic to penicillin. Augmentin may or may not be a penicillin - I'm not sure, but I have some very advanced technology to help me to decide..." |
| Kristal_Rose | (reply to Biggles) posted 12-Nov-2009 7:05pm I'd get a kick out of a doctor who did it jokingly though. |
| Biggles | (reply to Kristal_Rose) posted 12-Nov-2009 7:10pm Jokes are good for developing a rapport with patients, but it depends on the patient and the situation. For example, a comment like "Surgeons don't usually know their right from their left" (as spoken by my current placement partner) might be okay most of the time, but not when someone is about to go to theatre to have their left kidney removed! |
| Kristal_Rose | (reply to Biggles) posted 12-Nov-2009 7:28pm Yeah, obviously it depends on the patient too. Still, I'd prefer taking chances that humor fails 3% of the time over not having any, although indeed, the consequences of it failing are higher in medical circumstances. So too is it's value though when someone could really use some relief from their stress.. |
| coffee5437 | posted 12-Nov-2009 9:31pm Yes, I don't really wonder very often about why I know. I have been surprised that I KNOW it at all! |

| LuridHope | posted 17-Nov-2009 12:02pm Though knowledge can be acquired on a sub conscious and/or instinctual leveI, I usually remember the the point of impact, especially when it comes to detailed information. |
