None, if you don't count the couple credit cards I blew off. I don't use credit cards. Only thing is I can't ever rent a car, which geneally isn't an issue.

For myself...none. Whatever credit card debt I have is to help the family. I've always felt the credit card is evil. It is a way to control a people. I don't have much, but one dollar is too much for me.

I'm not carrying any; I pay my bill off in full every month. Earlier this year I carried a couple hundred dollars for a couple of months, but that's very unusual for me.

Under 500. I've said before....I refuse to get myself in debt but keeping a small balance with a very low interest rate actually improves your credit score...so if I ever did need something of extremely value, there would be no problem. Mother taught me well * smile *

I answered this, but I'm not sure I count. I have abandoned my credit card debt, which isn't huge... but is beyond my ability to pay at the moment.

After the debt is sold to a collection agency, do you think it will ever be taken to the courts? Do you know how that works? I recently received a collection letter threatening legal action from the 3rd agency to own a smallish debt. I would have thought if anyone would sue me for it, it would have been the bank itself.

I was wondering how high the amount would have to be for a large bank to take legal action to try to garnish your wages. Also, I was thinking.... because of the times, that amount might be lower these days compared to the old days.

If it is now in a 3rd collection agency it is not serious enough for anyone to really care. They are taking a long shot hoping you will pay. I would send them a letter to "cease and desist" (use those exact words) telling them to make no further contact with you.

As you say, if anyone was really wanting to go after you it would have been the original creditor.

I've blown off people for $1,500 and more on credit cards, etc. and to date over the years no one has actually taken any legal action.

Collectors only make money if they get people to pay. And the person who tries to harass you makes nothing either if he doesn't. They work on commission. So the more people they can scare and intimidate into paying the more money they make.
