| dpurdy33 | posted 30-Oct-2009 10:05am Foods usually pretty bad. I find I have little in common with the people I'm eating with. |
| Galomorro | posted 30-Oct-2009 10:59am No, never went to one and do not think I'd like them. |
| Enheduanna | posted 30-Oct-2009 12:01pm I have absolutely no occasion to go to them. I don't know that I've ever been to one. I suppose I might enjoy it, if it were at a liberal church with people I liked. I'm not opposed to them on principle or anything. |
| cerealkiller | posted 30-Oct-2009 12:11pm I haven't been to church since grade school. I was raised Lutheran and went to a Lutheran grade school. Church was pretty much mandatory every Sunday. I don't recall there even being any "church dinners" to go to. |
| bill | posted 30-Oct-2009 12:14pm I don't think I've ever been to one. But, my town does have them. "church" is a turn off for me. |
| mandy | posted 30-Oct-2009 2:25pm I've never done this |
| Crayons | posted 30-Oct-2009 4:00pm I like to go to my friend's church's picnic, for their tasty hamburgers, to have extra fun listening to Marilyn Manson on my mp3 player, to feel smart, etc. |
| Richard47 | posted 30-Oct-2009 4:27pm I have nothing against church dinners, especially if they help feeding the homeless, but I do not go to them. I feel the food should go to those who are in need. |
| thecomic22 | posted 30-Oct-2009 8:08pm Sure, just havn't been to one in a while tho |
| cloudhugger | posted 31-Oct-2009 12:12am Yes, and no. Depends onthe church. We don't belong to any, but I go sometimes in town to he Catholic church. they have an annual breakfast which used to be good. I had to walk out the place after being there for 20 minutes, the whole place was saturated with the smell of ham and bacon it really made me nauseus on so many levels. It cost me $8 for a forkful of fake scrambled eggs and flat pineapple casserole. It used ot be awesome a few years back.
They have a Thanksgiving dinner which is awesome. My Mary and I sit with whomever as it is family style and we always have a good time. I went to one with some friends in Michigan, that was OK, but I felt a bit stared at and ignored. I went to one with my aunt and cousins, I enjoyed their company very much but the dinner at the church part sucked b a d. I also went to another one once with a friend, horrid experience. There was a puppet show...freakiest crap, on a very scary level I have ever seen. We went out to smoke during that. Freaky freaky crap man. |
| LJD | posted 31-Oct-2009 9:23am I always enjoyed Church socials. Some of my fondest memories, as a child, was going to church, participating in their activities, and the socials. |
| Iseult | posted 31-Oct-2009 1:58pm I like dinners, period.
Have never been to a church dinner, but I probably wouldn't turn it down. |
| labjog | posted 31-Oct-2009 2:27pm The kind where everyone brings a dish to pass? Oh ya, good stuff. Old church ladies can cook!! |
| LindaH | posted 31-Oct-2009 4:07pm Depends. Did anyone bring jello jigglers? |
| labjog | (reply to LindaH) posted 31-Oct-2009 8:49pm > Depends. Did anyone bring jello jigglers?
No, but I brought Jello shots. |
| LindaH | (reply to labjog) posted 31-Oct-2009 10:25pm That should liven it up a bit. |
| gambler | posted 1-Nov-2009 4:57pm Never been |
| coffee5437 | posted 1-Nov-2009 6:14pm I am not very social. I don't like to commit, I enjoy myself when I go. |
| they | posted 1-Nov-2009 10:08pm Nope.
I liked it this one time. I was poor and didn't have anything to cook for dinner and we got free spaghetti. |
| they | (reply to cloudhugger) posted 1-Nov-2009 10:11pm I went to a church xmas play that was put on by the kids. At the end, the largest child appeared dressed as Satan.
Merry Christmas!! |
| wwsd | posted 2-Nov-2009 2:07am Atheist and proud of it, so don't try and push your religion on me, it isn't going to work. |
| autumnlight | posted 3-Nov-2009 4:03pm Never been to one. |
| AnAnde04 | posted 3-Nov-2009 11:09pm I don't go to church. I'm a deist. However, most of my beliefs lean in toward either Catholic or Hindu (actually Hindu is the closest since I believe God incarnates himself in a human being when the world needs to have their morality restored). However, I do like social settings like church dinners. It just makes me feel like an outsider if I go to one (because I am), and even though they're nice to me, I still have this sense of them feeling like I shouldn't be there since I don't believe the same as them. I guess it's time to add that the only church dinners I've been to were at my paternal grandmother's church (who is baptist) and my maternal grandmother's church (who is a Jehovah's Witness). |
| AnAnde04 | (reply to wwsd) posted 3-Nov-2009 11:18pm The question was not about whether or not you like going to church. It was more about whether or not you like the setting of eating with people who are all part of the same church. I would assume you would be uncomfortable, though. I'm uncomfortable going to them, and I do believe in a god. I just don't believe Jesus was the one and only incarnation nor do I believe that the bible is the only source that one should draw their religious conclusions from, and therefore it makes me uncomfortable to be around them. I fear that I will be ostracized because I believe differently. |
| Biggles | posted 4-Nov-2009 3:59pm I have been to dinners provided by a church (doing something similar to the Alpha course), but nothing like in the explanation. |
| Snoopyfan | posted 14-Nov-2009 3:03pm It should be a source of "fellowship." I've noticed through the years, however, this doesn't always ring true. I do enjoy them nevertheless! Since, reading these posts I'm greatly disturbed about some of the replies! To quote a phrase: "People Need the Lord." Church is so much more than food! It's what I said to begin with: but just a "fore taste" of "Things to Come!" One would do well to consider "eternity." If you are a believer you will one day be seated at the "Kings Table." As believers in Jesus Christ we need to be a source of strength & encouragement. Finally, if someone needs to be shown the purpose of the church it ONLY exists to get people into the Kingdom Of God. |
