No Country For Old Men

It's not horror (a good thing, I think), but I found it quite scary to watch.

I liked First House On The Left! More suspenseful and disturbing than scary.

I think a scary one to see, though it's not out yet, will be "2012 - Who Will Survive?" as seen in an ad on a bus kiosk.

"Psycho".....hands down. It has stood the test of time. I saw it on television so I am sure that the impact was not as great had I seen it at a movie theater. "The Exorcist"& "The Omen" were pretty scary movie theater films.

I'm not a big fan of scary movies. Nothing comes to mind.

Halloween is #1. Most horror films don't meet the definition of "scary". Scary movies generally have things that jump out unexpectedly.

I can watch that movie over and over. It is likely very realistic. The drug cartels along the Mexican border are ruthless.

I'd like to see it again. I bought the DVD for my brother's birthday, but he hasn't watched it yet so I can't borrow it!

We have digital video recording so I recorded it once on HBO. I've watched it many times. Weird deal with that air tank thing. Real purpose is to kill cattle for slaughter. Hit them between the eyes with it. In the olden days in the slaughter house guys would spend all day killing cattle with a sledge hammer.

That movie didn't have the typical "everything works out in the end" theme. It leaves you disappointed that the guy who took the movie got killed, you don't know if the bad guy killed the wife or not, and the strange end with Tommy Lee Jones just sitting at the table talking.

I want to read the book. In fact, I'm staying with my parents tonight, so I think I might pinch my Mum's copy. It might give a slightly different slant on it.

As a child/Teenager of the 80's ...I grew Up with the now classic "slasher" movie franchises which most have now been redone in some way or another:

Friday the 13th, Halloween, Nightmare on Elm Street, The Hills have eyes, Carrie, I spit on your grave, Last house on the left etc, I rarely go and see scary movies now, preferring to watch it on DVD or Cable........... The last "scary" movie I saw that gave me goosebumps was:

"No Country for Old Men".... Javier Bardem a Spanish actor played the part of a Sociopathic killer named "Anton Chigurh" scary scary guy...........

There was a verbal exchange in a gas station store between him and the old owner, just through his voice and how he looked the owner figured this guy was real bad news...

Gas Station guy: You don't have to do this.
Anton Chigurh: [smiles] People always say the same thing.
Gas Station guy: What do they say?
Anton Chigurh: They say, "You don't have to do this."
Gas Station guy: You don't.
Anton Chigurh: Okay.
[Chigurh flips a coin and covers it with his hand]
Anton Chigurh: This is the best I can do. Call it.
Gas Station guy: I knowed you was crazy when I saw you sitting there. I knowed exactly what was in store for me.
Anton Chigurh: Call it.

What I've noticed about this movie is that virtually every Catholic I have known who saw this movie was scared by it. Protestants, Jews and others not so much. So, the question arises, were you ever Catholic?

No; I'm Christian Orthodox. Which is, when you boil it down, very close to Catholicism in some ways. As far as I know, it's the only other non-Protestant major Christian denomination.

I saw the movie when I was 15. For good few weeks I would be too scared to go to sleep or wake up having dreams where my bed was shaking. Back when, I still believed in God.

The one thing that sticks in my mind was when she said "Stick your c*ck up her ass, you mother f**king worthless c*cksucker" at the time it was indeed scary when I saw it, the music helped too by Mike Oldfield....another shout out must go to "The Omen" which I thought scary at the time too
