| Biggles | posted 23-Oct-2009 5:07pm There are things about the future that make me feel trepidation rather than outright fear. In less than three years, I'm going to start a job that carries a huge amount of responsibility. At that point, I imagine I'm going to be pretty scared, but I'll try not to worry about it too much for now! I do have a few fears about my hearing, which seems to be declining, but I don't think there's much that can be done about it so I'll just have to take it as it comes and hope it doesn't affect my fitness to practise. I have other worries, but I'd rather not dwell on them too much! |
| labjog | posted 23-Oct-2009 5:32pm No, not at all. |
| LJD | posted 23-Oct-2009 7:22pm Not for myself, but for my children, grandchildren, future generations |
| Richard47 | posted 23-Oct-2009 9:12pm No, though neither terrified or excited. Just living in the day, making some plans and seeing them come to fruition. |
| bill | posted 24-Oct-2009 8:56am not scared per se, more darkly curious |
| cprasky | posted 24-Oct-2009 11:19am Not really. A little troubled here and there. But generally looking forward to new challenges and new developments. |

He even conducted at it's premiere, although the orchestra was carefully instructed to pay no attention to Beethoven, only to the other conductor. |
| Biggles | (reply to cprasky) posted 24-Oct-2009 1:23pm Well, Beethoven was a genius who was able to imagine the music, even if he couldn't hear it. I don't think just "imagining" what the heart should sound like is likely to work for me. I think there should be ways of dealing with it though - my hearing loss doesn't relate to volume (I can still hear very quiet sounds), so it may just require me to be creative (e.g. use an electrical stethoscope to record heart sounds and then find somewhere quiet to listen to them, rather than attempting to do it by the bedside).
Of course, what I should really do is take myself off to my GP to request a hearing test! |
| Enheduanna | posted 24-Oct-2009 1:38pm No; sometimes I'm excited, sometimes just neutral. The great thing about the future is that it will arrive regardless. |
| cerealkiller | posted 24-Oct-2009 3:16pm There is no future the way the country is going.
But really, I've never concerned myself my whole life about the future. I live day by day and only look ahead a week or two. I don't assume there is any future ever. Of course living that way my whole life means I'll never be able to retire if I live that long. Right now according to my retirement investment company I should have $2 million in my 401k. Hah, I have about $68,000 which includes losing $15k this past year. Right now in order to retire I'd have to put $10k a month into my 401k. |
| cprasky | (reply to cerealkiller) posted 24-Oct-2009 3:41pm Hey, ya got 68,000 bucks I can borrow? I can get it back to you next week. |
| Gomezy3k | posted 25-Oct-2009 10:39am Neither excited or scared. The future has sucked since I was born so I am used to it sucking and just accept it. Not to mention the future is really going to suck if the Democrats and Obama are not stopped. |
| Nitroeddy | posted 25-Oct-2009 8:33pm No, I'm not scared, but I don't exactly think it's exciting either. |
| Iseult | posted 26-Oct-2009 10:26am At this exact moment, yes. My immidiate future at least. In the long term, however, I know things will pick up. It seems right now that too many things are going the wrong way, some of them completely out of my hands. |
