| dab | posted 10-Oct-2009 6:14pm After Yassar Arafat and Al Gore got the Nobel Peace Prize, I thought my opinion of the prize couldn't fall any lower. I was incorrect. |
| llamamama | posted 10-Oct-2009 7:27pm No, he hasn't done anything. But never mind if he's done anything between January 20-now..because some people will say he has..But between January 20-February 1, he DID NOTHING! Why he was even put on the ballot on February 1st, I have no idea. And I'm not saying that maybe he won't do something in the future to warrant the award, but as of right now..no he doesn't deserve it at all. Gawd, I deserve it about as much as he does.
It makes a (more of a) mockery of the award..And no one will take him seriously if he accepts it. |
| jettles | posted 10-Oct-2009 7:44pm the award is inspirational and aspirational........... so yes |
| southernyankee | (reply to llamamama) posted 10-Oct-2009 8:16pm "No, he hasn't done anything."
Thats actually more of a reason in favor than against. Usually when Presidents of countries do something, that thing tends to be war more often than not. Him not doing anything in office means he's being peaceful. |
| bill | posted 10-Oct-2009 8:29pm No, though he has done some things. I think it's premature.
I think there are others who likely would have deserved it more. Also, others could have used the extra attention this award might give their cause (also, the money). Obama will most likely be hurt by the attention. I think giving Obama this award hurts the reputation of Nobel prizes. It is kind of nice to see that Europeans like our president now, though. I'm sure Bush scared the piss out of them. I'm glad our president doesn't scare other countries anymore. |
| llamamama | (reply to southernyankee) posted 10-Oct-2009 8:34pm Well, he hasn't exactly resolved the war either..Which I think would be a double scoop of peace. |

Well, that sort of depends on who those other countries are. |
| Kristal_Rose | posted 11-Oct-2009 12:56am No. We still have military in two countries.
It would be nice if he eventually deserves such a reward, but I'm not seeing that happen yet. |
| LJD | posted 11-Oct-2009 9:47am NO |
| Enheduanna | posted 11-Oct-2009 12:28pm It doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. He hasn't done much yet. But I find it very annoying that some people on the right (predictably) have their knickers in a huge twist about it. It's great for the US that he got it, however you look at it. |
| Iseult | posted 11-Oct-2009 2:03pm Sure, I guess. I'm not really following it, although I'd be mortified if Bono ever got awarded. Better Obama than Bono. |
| Iseult | (reply to dab) posted 11-Oct-2009 2:05pm I don't know much about Arafat but I was seriously annoyed when Gore got it. |
| Crayons | posted 11-Oct-2009 3:01pm I don't think YET, but I think he will.. but if he already got it.. whatever. |
| cloudhugger | posted 12-Oct-2009 7:38am Yes, we are all qualified judges for the peace rpize recipients here... |
| FordGuy | posted 12-Oct-2009 7:39am Yeah, he won the prize based on 11 days in office...since nominations end Feb 1. He deserves it. He's the messiah. |
| cerealkiller | posted 12-Oct-2009 1:26pm He has done nothing, let alone anything towards peace. |
| mandy | posted 12-Oct-2009 6:03pm No |
| FauxLo | posted 14-Oct-2009 7:33pm I think this is the world's way of slapping Bush in the face and spitting at the feet of the American people who elected Bush into office. I quite liked how Obama took note of what's really going on and said, "I do not deserve it." It allows the world to see that our President is in agreement with the intent behind giving it to him. |
| dilfreak | posted 25-Oct-2009 2:29pm No he should NOT have received that award. Barack Obama is a joke and a disgrace to this country. He is steadily leading this country to hell. |
| Enigma | posted 26-Oct-2009 12:42am I thought it was supposed to be for doing something. Not trying to do something. |

Honestly, in his first 9 months, he hasn't done anything (which is more a pro than con). And last time I've checked, we still have those unmanned drones flying over Afghanistan. Well, I guess thats promoting peace. Sort of.
Peace through superior firepower.
