| cprasky | posted 7-Oct-2009 7:49am Just yes. End of story. |
| bill | posted 7-Oct-2009 9:20am Probably, but I can't think of a specific example off hand. Maybe, not recently or I'm just blotting it out.
On the other hand, I give troublesome users of that other website ultimatums fairly often. Stuff like, "Stop pirating or I will permaban your ass" (that's embellished a bit). But, a lot of what I seem forced into doing is trying to get young males to behave. Ultimatums seem to work fairly well for that sort of thing. |
| jettles | posted 7-Oct-2009 10:23am yes, my previous partner/lover told me i needed help and needed to get it. i agreed i needed some psychological help(post my mother's death) and did get it but my partner thought i was the only one who caused the wane or termination of our relationship. i agreed i needed help but didn't agree i was the only one with a problem. the ultimatum was "we are over unless YOU get help" |
| LindaH | posted 7-Oct-2009 10:45am No.
The word 'ultimatum' never ceases to make me think 'old tomato' |
| cerealkiller | posted 7-Oct-2009 3:08pm Yeah. A neighbor had a handgun pointed at me and told me to get out of his yard. I did, backing up, figuring it was a good idea to comply with his request. |
| Enheduanna | posted 7-Oct-2009 3:54pm I can't remember. Possibly. |
| Richard47 | posted 7-Oct-2009 4:02pm Maybe as a child. I think that parents do that all of the time. If you want this, you have to do that. If you want that, you have to do this. Sometimes ultimatums as an adult are not stated as such, but the implication is always there. Laws are written as ultimatums.... do 'this' or you'll face 'that'. But I do not think that, personally, anyone has 'forced' me to do anything using the word 'ultimatum'. It just wouldn't work with me, nor with a lot of people. Just the fact that I was given one would result in instant defiance. |
| gambler | posted 7-Oct-2009 5:48pm Yes, I am sure loads of times by parents |
| cloudhugger | posted 8-Oct-2009 4:58pm Yes, I have. Don't like them very much. Mu SO at the time used to dole them out like they were going out of style. |
| Biggles | posted 8-Oct-2009 5:04pm Not as far as I remember. |
| Gomezy3k | posted 11-Oct-2009 9:08am Yes and I do not agree with any ultimatum. When someone tells me I HAVE to do something, I do the opposite or just do not do it. |

> someone tells me I HAVE to do something, I do > the opposite or just do not do it. Good. I do the opposite, too, usually out of spite. |
| they | posted 14-Nov-2009 11:41am Hm. I'm not sure. I'm leaning towards "no". |
