| Frostbrand | posted 24-Sep-2009 9:46am Not really, but I do like Auto-Tuning the news. |
| bill | posted 24-Sep-2009 10:15am Tangentially, I love the "Auto-Tune the News" YouTube clips, e.g.
As for music... hm, well, I don't hate it but it does seem like it's getting used a lot now, maybe too much. I don't think I actually listen to much music that uses it (at least, not in that overt way). I suppose it's a kind of fad that will likely die out. I know some people are starting to complain about it. I saw a segment about the guys who created Auto-Tune on Nova Science Now. I thought they seemed like cool people/geeks. So, I suppose I have a soft spot in my heart for Auto-Tune, technology-wise. There's two sides to this Auto-Tune thing. It was originally intended as a tool that would just make slight corrections to make recordings and live performances perfect in an imperceptible manner. But, then artists started using Auto-Tune as an effect. Cher's "Believe" (Do you believe in life after love?) was the breakthrough song that did this. It used Auto-Tune in that overt manner, for effect. Since then, the overt use of Auto-Tune has spread to many music genres (from hip-hop to country). It's kind of amazing, culturally. But, this overt use is likely still just a fad. But, I'm sure the more subtle use is here to stay. |

| Iseult | posted 24-Sep-2009 2:45pm I love it when it's used to overexeggerate the voice.
However, when singers use it to make it out that they actually can sing, when they can't, I think it's disgusting and disgraceful. |

| Gomezy3k | posted 27-Sep-2009 10:52am It's a way for no talent musicians to cover up... Some like CRrappers and Hip Hop types who have no talent but have duped tone deaf fans into liking their crap. |
| Enheduanna | posted 3-Oct-2009 1:41pm It's ok. |
| Zang | posted 9-Oct-2009 1:45pm I suspect there is a lot more going on (in terms of signal processing) in that example, than simply using "Auto-Tune". |
