| Biggles | posted 23-Sep-2009 8:27pm It is unlikely, unless there were specific circumstances that made it more worrying. For example, if they had children with them. I used to be able to watch intra-venous drug users from the window of my final year room in Oxford because it overlooked a small wooded area that was just off a main road. I never reported it. |
| cprasky | posted 23-Sep-2009 9:29pm I put "other", but in fact I would not call the cops if snorting coke (or shooting smack or crank or whatever) was all they were up to. If they were being violent or causing property damage or whatever, then yes, I would call the cops. I am not a big fan of smack, crank, crack and such, but it still strikes me as surpassingly stupid to outlaw the drugs themselves. Alcohol prohibition is what gave organized crime a firm foothold in this country to begin with. The continuing drug prohibition policy of today is what keeps them firmly planted and thriving.
Now, about that "other" reply. Assuming they were not being violent or destructive, I might ask if they could spare a line or two. Years ago in San Francisco, Sharon and I would occasionally get a gram of coke on special occasions, like one of our birthdays or our anniversary and spend a weekend in bed. Never went beyond that though, and it has been quite a while... |
| bill | posted 24-Sep-2009 5:52am I have a lot of resistance against calling the cops. Mostly, because it seems like a hassle to me. So, whatever it was would have to be pretty bad before I called. I guess I haven't seen that many crimes either. |
| FordGuy | posted 24-Sep-2009 7:41am I don't think I've ever called the cops. Survey idea: Have you ever called the cops? And Why? |
| Iseult | posted 24-Sep-2009 8:54am Unless they're of any danger to myself or anyone else, no. |
| Zang | posted 24-Sep-2009 10:23am If I behaved like that, I'd be on a first name basis with the 911 operator. |
| jettles | posted 24-Sep-2009 8:15pm i don't know, maybe, maybe not! it depends on the situation i guess. |
| southernyankee | posted 26-Sep-2009 12:55am No, I am too uncaring too bother worrying if said individual will eventually die of an overdose. And arresting them won't do any good. They'll just spend a night in jail and get released the next day anyway, in and out of jail. Its just best to let them be.
Besides, I don't even think that being on drugs is illegal anyway. Its only illegal to possess them or sell them. The blow will get scattered all over the place when the junkie tries to run, and the DA won't even touch that one. |
| Wicksy | posted 27-Sep-2009 9:28am Maybe. |

| coffee5437 | posted 30-Sep-2009 10:06pm If someone is making a decision to mess with their life taking drugs then so be it. Do you think they are going to be in the parking lot by the time you get through with the call to the cops? |
