| gambler | posted 31-Aug-2009 12:20pm I made a similar survey awhile back and my vote has not changed ........... "Get Here" sung by Oleta Adams is fantastic and one of my all time faves, the original artist & also the songwriter is Brenda Russell, her songs have been covered also by Luther Vandross (if only for one night) as much as she is a good singer Oleta Adams version is miles ahead of her own
also Kelly Pryce's version of "As we Lay" is great too original by Shirley Murdock |
| Iseult | posted 31-Aug-2009 12:49pm Sopor Aeternus cover of 'Paranoid' by Black Sabbath ()

| RainingFeathers | posted 31-Aug-2009 5:11pm I don't know if I could choose a favourite, but right now I'm really into Gary Jules' version of Mad World (the original, by Tears for Fears, isn't so great...)

| autumnlight | posted 1-Sep-2009 4:17pm For some reason I reeeeally like It's My Life by No Doubt, which is a cover of Talk Talk's version. I don't know why I like it so much - I really dislike No Doubt in general. I like loads of covers but this is one that pops out. |

| Iseult | posted 2-Sep-2009 2:28pm I thought of one more - Rammstein's 'Das Model'. It's a cover of Kraftwerk.
|
| Crayons | (reply to they) posted 2-Sep-2009 10:49pm Oooh! I like that version too. It just has a different appeal than Marilyn Manson's. But it's a great song overall. |

> > Guns N Roses, doing Bob Dylan's "Knockin on Heaven's Door": > > Nirvana, doing David Bowie's "The Man who Sold the World": I completely agree with you on Cake's version of "I will survive". I had forgotten about that one. I'm a fan of the G n' R cover of "Knockin' on Heaven's Door", as well. Although I wouldn't say it's one of my favorites. I was never really crazy about the song itself, but G n' R made me not hate it, and there's a lot to be said for that. |
| they | (reply to ScubaScott) posted 3-Sep-2009 11:49am I'm new to Cake. I knew they were out there, but had never really listened to their stuff. I adore them now.
My brother said he was in the car with my dad recently when GNR's version came on. At first, when my dad heard it, he was disappointed it wasn't Bob or Paul singing it.... but he came around after he listened for a second and started singing along. GNR made the best version, I think. As great as Bob is..... he didn't do it as much justice as Axl. |
| they | (reply to Crayons) posted 3-Sep-2009 11:50am The whole soundtrack to Natural Born Killers is excellent. Definitely the best soundtrack ever made, imho.
I need to pull up the MM version and listen to it, thanks for the tip. |

Depeche Mode did the original. I prefer than the original, and I bloody loved the original. |
