Debit card. I only use credit cards where they won't take my debit card.

Debit card as I've never owned a credit card. I know this must seem old-fashioned, but if I haven't got the money for something, I don't buy it.*

Don't have any credit cards. I use my debit card every day and most everywhere I go, including fast food places. I rarely carry more than $5-$10 on me at any time. I generally make over 100 debit card transactions a month.

Only downside to not having a credit card is that I can't rent a car anywhere. Haven't needed to for years so no big deal.

Same here. I only use credit when they don't take debit, and then I pay the bill off when it comes.

I don't own any credit cards anymore. At one point I had several platinum cards and several gold cards and half a dozen department store cards. Dumb, dumb, dumb. I prefer to pay for my purchases with one payment now -- not several hundred. * raspberry *

This is my philosophy as well, but I do use a credit card (and for nearly everything). I use the card to get the points, which I plan to use for travel. I pay off the bill in full at the end of every month, and never need to pay interest.

I probably use debit slightly more. I use credit for personal stuff and debit for household stuff that comes out of a shared account. I imagine it's pretty close, though.

I have a card that can be used as either credit or debit (it's all debit on the back end though). I used to use it mostly as credit because I thought it would cost me some fee to use it as a debit card (like that $1 charge for using an ATM from another bank). But, recently, I noticed that it doesn't seem to do that. So, I've been trying to use it more as a debit card. I do slightly prefer typing in my code compared to signing the slip of paper. But, I don't really like it when they ask me if I want cash back. I never want cash back.

An old boss of mine was a member of the Motley Fool and he had up to 12 credit cards at any one time. He was always on the lookout for anyone offering 0% interest on balance transfers and would immediately max out the card and put the money into a series of high interest saver accounts.

He controlled it all with an Excel spreadsheet so that he knew that on any given day he had to transfer funds from Card A to Account B and from Account C back onto Card E. He reckoned he made over $16k/year moving money around.

I would've started doing it too, were it not for the fact that I'm hopelessly disorganised!

Wow. That's a pretty smart idea. I'm nowhere near savvy enough to pull off something like that though. Good for him.
