| jonathan | posted 30-Nov-1999 6:33pm I tend to listen to the music more than the lyrics, so no. When I do listen to the lyrics, the songs just tend to reflect my opinions - the one that best comes to mind is an updated version of "Rocket Launcher" by Bruce Cockburn that he did after reports about a large-scale child-abuse case in the Scottish Hebrides islands. I thought the song was really impressive (something about that line "If I had a rocket launcher I'd blow them all away"), though it's effectiveness was diminished by later news reports on how the manner of interviewing the children had affected their testimony. |
| bill | posted 30-Nov-1999 6:58pm lyrics can give me an emotional reaction, but I'm not sure that my opinions have changed. |
| Mariah | posted 30-Nov-1999 7:30pm I usually twist the lyrics around so that they relate to feelings or opinions I already have. This can take a lot of effort, but it's fun for me. |
| mandy | posted 30-Nov-1999 8:09pm I am more drawn to muzak that reiterates what I already think and feel. Or Muzak that says what I mean better than I can, and with a good beat I can really dance too! |
| romkey | posted 30-Nov-1999 11:05pm probably but I couldn't say how |
| Matt | posted 30-Nov-1999 11:18pm Have you listened (or gotten the live Manson album mandy? |
| Pomeranian | posted 30-Nov-1999 11:34pm Not a terribly deep example, but...there was a time when I really liked the musical "Les Miserables" but I listened to the dead-on parody by "Forbidden Broadway" and can never, ever take that musical seriously again. |
| Fluffball | posted 1-Dec-1999 8:31am Yeah, now I find myself "Living La Vida Loca"--that's the crazy life for you gringos. |
| Fluffball | posted 1-Dec-1999 8:31am By the way, that was sarcasm. |
| they | posted 1-Dec-1999 8:32am I just read that Living La Vida Loca is very calming to colicky babies for some reason... I hope mine doesn't have colic :) |
| ILJ | posted 1-Dec-1999 2:31pm I used to think that girls just wanna have cheese, but fortunately Cyndi Lauper set me straight on that point. |
| drdt | posted 1-Dec-1999 3:00pm Does anyone remember the *other* 'Vida Loca' song? You know, the *good* one? |
| Mariah | posted 1-Dec-1999 4:27pm ILJ: LOL :) |
| mandy | posted 1-Dec-1999 7:17pm Matt...I haven't bothered to get the live CD. I was actually there, remember :) That tour will live in my memory. |
| eris | posted 7-Jan-2000 7:26pm Not overtly that I can recall. |
| lonxedosol | posted 12-Jan-2000 4:27pm Just about anything Bob Dylan has ever written. Some They Might Be Giants songs, b/c they're just so silly & so am i! I also think that New Order's song that was on the Trainspotting Sdtrk. regarding eye colour "You've got green eyes, oh, you've got blue eyes, oh--you've got grey eyes!" That's about accurate w/ me. Mine go from blue to green to grey constantly! |
| Frostbrand | posted 13-Jan-2000 5:07am Love TMBG! Particle Man, Prticle Man Doing the things a particle can what's he like, it's not importnant Particle Man. |
| supplicant | posted 14-Jan-2000 1:19pm Is he a dot? Or is he a speck? When he's under water, does he get wet? Or does the water get him instead? Nobody knows. Particle Man. This is a bad habit of mine, I always feel compelled to complete the next verse of any song off Flood someone mentions |
| Frostbrand | posted 15-Jan-2000 6:28pm supplicant: Put a little birdhouse in your soul. |
| supplicant | posted 17-Jan-2000 1:48pm I may be feeling compelled, but I shall overcome it... Oy! Head! You WILL respect my Authoritah! |
| supplicant | posted 17-Jan-2000 1:49pm Looks like Supplicant went off the deep end |
| natsim | posted 7-Feb-2000 12:13pm Many many many songs have influenced my thoughts... Possibly, not many pop songs, although lately all those boy bands complaining about girls being so sexy that they can't help themselves really piss me off. Some church songs have helped me to think more about positive female images of God, and have inspired me to help others. Lately, Dar Williams' "when I was a boy" has made me think. I could go on. |
| mary | posted 7-Mar-2000 4:45pm Yes, a lot of songs make certain things seem more acceptable. |
| Matt | posted 22-Mar-2000 3:09am I do remember, but I was thinking you were going to get it to listen to it again ;) |
| mandy | posted 22-Mar-2000 4:58pm Naw...I'm thinking of investing in some cool imports though...some stuff from Europe and overseas tours and some biographical CD's. My record store has a snoot full of that stuff. |
| Matt | posted 22-Mar-2000 7:48pm I tried talking the HMV guy to let me have a video instead of a tape for my CD card... when you get to ten, you get a free one (24,99$ and less) The tape was 19 so0mething, its all(or most) the Tori videos. Thats my next musical buy |
| mandy | posted 22-Mar-2000 8:01pm I wonder why I've never listened to Tori? I know how much you and Eeah adore her. I still haven't taken the time to listen to her stuff. I shall make that a priority. |
