| Crayons | posted 4-Aug-2009 6:53pm I couldn't bear the thought of eating cafeteria food at school. It's overpriced and disgusting. When I don't have anything to eat at school, I just go to the vending machines. I'd rather eat cold poptarts. I haven't been in a hospital, and I'm sure it's better, because how could it be any worse? |
| Galomorro | posted 4-Aug-2009 6:53pm Don't eat cafeteria food. |
| cerealkiller | posted 4-Aug-2009 7:50pm Hospital cafeterias here actually have very good food. |
| FauxLo | posted 4-Aug-2009 8:37pm I don't know why hospital food gets such a bad rap. I've never had bad food while in a hospital. |
| dab | posted 4-Aug-2009 11:19pm Our local hospital has quite a decent cafeteria. |
| Biggles | posted 5-Aug-2009 7:25am The food that I have eaten in the hospital restaurant both where I used to work and at the hospitals where I am now based were pretty awful. The food that I had in Liverpool was definitely the worst - it was cooked in Manchester and then reheated once it arrived and left out on hotplates, utterly vile. I had to feed that stuff to my patients too, many of whom needed encouragement to eat anyway and were definitely going to turn their noses up at hospital food. In contrast, school dinners at my primary school were pretty good even though they did cycle through the same meals about once a month (or less) and I doubt there was much in the way of fresh ingredients (tinned veg was the order of the day and probably only one portion). Still, there are certain meals that I actually remember fondly - cheese flan with chips and tinned tomatoes was my favourite, and the chili-con-carne with rice wasn't bad. And some of the puddings... pinwheels (chocolate and vanilla shortbread) served with yoghurt, chocolate pudding with chocolate sauce, rice pudding with a blob of jam... yum! The only truly vile thing I remember us being served on a regular basis was a disgusting concoction of bad pastry, nasty jam, and syrup-coated cornflakes served with custard. We sat at tables of eight people with the two oldest (usually) at the table acting as servers whose job it was to dish up and perhaps more importantly remember whose turn it was for "scrapes" (i.e. whatever was left at the bottom of the pudding tin after serving everyone) and who was next in line to get the skin of the custard! |

| dpurdy33 | posted 5-Aug-2009 11:24am Cafeteria food? U-m-m-m the best? Certainly not the "stuff" they serve at school. It should come with a disclaim like "any resemblance between this and food is merely a coincidence, not intended to deceive your taste buds or stomach.." |
| Enheduanna | posted 5-Aug-2009 1:42pm The cafeteria at the Museum of the American Indian in Washington, DC is fantastic. |
| Jody | posted 5-Aug-2009 3:13pm Museum cafeterias are pretty good... |
| meowry | posted 5-Aug-2009 7:49pm Picadilly's is a cafeteria-type restaurant. And their food is far better than any at school, or in a hospital. |
| Matty | posted 6-Aug-2009 2:16pm haven't eaten at a caf in a while, but my guess would be school |
| cprasky | posted 7-Aug-2009 8:46am The best cafeteria food I have ever had in my life was at the school cafeteria when I lived in Roosevelt Roads NAS, Puerto Rico. My favorite dish there was arroz con pollo, chicken with rice. They made it with kidney beans mixed up into as well. I don't usually like kidney beans (I use pinto beans when I make chili), but they were okay in this dish. |
| cloudhugger | posted 7-Aug-2009 4:39pm I don't know. There are a few hospitals that are well known for their wonderful food. It's more n the catered side. School? please, I wouldn't feel that to pigs. A truck driver I was talking to once delivered food to the school and gave more than neccesary details about the foul condition and quality of that crapchit. |

| Dino | posted 9-Sep-2009 4:26pm I have one in my workplace. Everyone hates it and loves to moan about it.
I like it though. Maybe I have simple tastes. I mean it isn't high cuisine. Basic stuff. But a meal is £4. That works for me. |
