Time.
Also aloe vera. It doesn't really cure it, but it helps relieve the pain a bit, and makes it less likely to peel.

Banana Boat Sooth-A-Caine (with Aloe and Lidocaine). Use generously and reapply every hour or so. It seems to really help reduce the damage. Keeping the burn moisturized is probably a big factor and the Lidocaine can really help the hurt too.

Aloe vera, of course - no doubt everyone else will say the same.

I've always liked the green stuff. But the only bottle we had was 10 years over the expiration date, I think my parents had it from their honeymoon in Hawaii.

Wear suntan hosiery and stay out of the sun. <grin> But I've heard aloe right from the plant works well. Otherwise, consuming mass amounts of your favorite adult beverage seems to help as well.

Nothing beats real aloe vera gel that I know of. I had one growing for trips to the beach a few years ago.

Watch out for bottled gel which says 100% Aloe, yet only means that the aloe ingredient is 100% pure (as one would imagine is true of all ingredients products list).

Depends on how bad it is! Cooling it down with a long cool bath/shower and possibly a cold compress afterwards is a good idea. If it's mild, moisturiser (a very plain one) or after-sun cream to stop it from drying out any more. Pain killers if it's sore - ibuprofen and/or paracetamol should do it - because it can be hard to sleep with sunburn and you'll feel worse if you're shattered. Plenty of oral fluids (NOT alcohol!). Severe sunburn and its associated symptoms (like diarrhoea and vomiting) may require hospitalisation, treatment in a burns unit, IV fluids and even skin grafts and ought to be covered with something like a clean plastic bag while on the way to the hospital. Prevention is better than cure: wear a high factor sun-cream, remember to reapply it throughout the day and cover up! * smile *

I know something that will not cure it, but it will keep it from getting worse. If you use Mary Kay Night Cream and put it on the effected area it will keep the skin moist, and not drying out and peeling.
