I always look things up on consumeraffairs.com. I have not seen any good reviews on any of that junk, so I dont buy them.

A friend of mine got that thingy that trims dogs nails, she said it scared the crap out of her dog and when you press down to actually file a nail it bogs right down. Thats $20 down the drain.

I bought stuff and they didn't work like advertised. Several things do work, just not as advertised, others do not work period..

My friend did - those ShamWow things... They're not as good as they say - they're nothing like the real thing.

 * laughing out loud * My friend (the same one as above) bought that the other day - I don't know if he tried it on the dog yet.

Oxyclean isn't half bad.

I have this knife sharpener... I think it's called a knife shark or something like that... it works okay.

Pocet Fisherman. Ibought it for my dad when it was the new thing. I still have it. * love *
Those heavy furniture lifters...I haven't tried them yet. If they do not work, I could very well die.
I know several that bought the Magic Bullet. They seem happy with it, although we have one similiar that was half the price and works great.
Furniture sliders, they kinda work. Carpeted floors mostly, but I only have a little bit of carpet, so to slide on hardwood fudges up the hardwood if there is a small pebble or something there.
These picture hangers I think my Mary saw them on tv...they are AWESOME

I'm sure there are more, but that's enough for now. I have been entertained, pleasently surprised and dismally disappointed at any of these 'deals'.

Haven't tried. The things I get on eBay are things I set out to find in the first place.

I can't ever in fact recall being motivated to try something because of a commercial. I have 1000's of things in my house, and not one of them is result of an advertisment. Labels probably played a part though. Even with food though, a label is just enough to suggest I might find the product appropriate, then I proceed to the ingredient list. I'm mostly a specs person.

I did though once buy a knife (Ginsu?) demonstrated at a super-market a dozen years ago. It's the one knife I've been using ever since. Hmm, doesn't say Ginsu, just says China.
