At a titty bar?

I don't like sports and anywhere you go the pizza places, bars, etc. have big screen tv's going and always have sports on. I think that's a mistake to assume everyone likes to watch sports. I would never intentionally watch a sports program on tv and actually have the satellite tv guide programmed to not even show ESPN and any other sports channels.

I'm with you brother. I never watch sports, read the sports section, or have any idea what the current play off situation is. I agree with you that it is a bad assumption to say that people like watching sports. But it does sell liquour and food. It makes me wonder though - what if there were such thing as a News Bar. Same as a sports bar, but news instead. I think too many 'men' are conditioned to 'like' sports just so they can fit in. 9 times out of 10 I listen to Active Mind radio anyway.

I find it uncomfortable when another guy will mention sports teams, games, etc. in a conversation since I know nothing about it and it is hard to respond.

It is funny. My older son who is 39 is a total sports nut and wouldn't miss a Sunday football game on tv for anything. My other son (37) could care less and would prefer to watch movies or work on his cars.

Um, cell phones? The batteries on my non-wireless landline with 20' coiled handset cord never went dead, which is more than I can say for every friend of mine using either cell phones or wireless phones.

Cable. I can get some 60 digital TV stations (all but one) perfectly in LA just using an antenna I made from five coat hangers.

It's a hard question to answer. I look around to jog my memory, but I tend not to own things which are inferior unless it's things I found in the alley like bookshelves.

Oh, psych meds. I've never tried one yet which didn't have side effects worse than the improvements.

I'd go for an art bar, something playing Classic Arts Showcase, PBS's all night fine arts equivalent of MTV videos. It's great stuff: theater, classical concerts, guitar virtuosos, vintage abstract claymation, ballet.

I had my own idea for a bar called either 'Show and Tell' or 'The Trading Post'. It would encourage people to show off their specialty, be that vintage radio repair, fire dancing, jelly making, fashion design, or whatever creative thing they do. The place would sell all sorts of crafts people made. It would also sell exotic pastries, hors d'ouevres, and fruit smoothies. It would of course have a stage and a few instruments and costumes kicking around for any amateur musicians or actors. It's rather the opposite of a bar with music up too loud to talk. The idea is to involve everyone and get to know each other.

People showing off their latest concoction, like gingerale with frozen OJ concentrate, Ouzo, Rimpleminze, and pomegranate grenadine.

Home made floral meads.

Carbonated port with herb & spice infusions.

Doppelbock: Typically a christmas beer of high specific gravity, sweetness, and potency, created by a much higher proportion of syrups during brewing. I'm sure you'd enjoy them.

One can increase the sweetness by inclusion of non-fermentable sugars like lactose, otherwise the tendency is to climb to 21% alcohol without any sweetness unless one otherwise kills the yeast.

You don't know what a doppelbock is? As much as you love beer??? Where have you been? Or are you just one of those Bud guys? * smile *

Here is an article discussing bock beers: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bock

If you get a chance, find a high-end grocery store or German restaurant in your area and get a bottle of Aventinus Doppelbock Weizenbier mit Hefe. Don't drink more than one if you're driving. It comes in 22 ounce bottles, I believe, and has an alcohol content of 9%.

You may have had one by now already without knowing if you've ever gone to a German pub.

I used to make ice beers too. Never tried an Eisbock though.

When one batch of beer came out poorly, I made peppermint schnapps with it.

In case there was any doubt, I meant not knowing you had had a bock, not not knowing if you've ever gone to a German pub. That takes drinking considerably more beers.

No German pubs, what a shame. There was a delightful one in Santa Cruz which shut down, a half outdoor 'BierGarden' full of steins and german chocolates. There was another in the hills of Santa Cruz with a great German restaurant.

There is a Biergarden here in Portsmouth, VA, half outdoors as well. I wonder if the folks moved from Santa Cruz to here.
